Blown Coverage Blows Them Away in San Simeon Stakes

San Simeon Stakes – Grade III
SA Race #5 6 1/2f Turf Stake
Purse $100.000 For Four Year Olds And Upward.

1st      Blown Coverage        Angelos Stable       Desormeaux K J

This six year old did it in the GP Turf Sprint last year and did it again today in this race basically blousing a field full of good sprinters. You have to call into question his two defeats in ungraded company sandwiched between those victories but these sprints can be a bit of a lottery so it is no surprise they can look a bit inconsistent. One thing is for sure this was a great $30 buy and at the age of six looks to be maturing into a really solid sprinter that may just be able to get into the BC if he carries on this sort of form.

=2nd     Cherokee Raj       Night Rider Stables       Espinoza V

Second in a grade three for $9 profit, it does make you wonder why we bother and it certainly helps you understand why good stakes horses are running at the fair tracks. This was a career best effort by the five year old who was right in the race throughout and kept on really gamely, i have no idea where this places him in the scheme of things but there is no reason black type wont be in his future.

=2nd       Suicide Blitz       High Voltage        Pyfer J

He actually bounded out of the gate exactly as he did over course and distance last month from exactly the same gate. Today however despite a slower winning time he could not keep up the gallop although that may have had something to do with the extra four pounds he was carrying lowering his maximum speed for this trip. He is clearly improving though and could well develop into a nice stakes grade sprinter.

4th      On The Dot       Jokerjoes       Prat F

Stayed on into fourth but never looked likely to bother the top three. This was a pretty good effort though but probably represents where he is at the moment. A solid sprinter who will always be competitive.
