5 MTH The Sorority Stakes
$200.000 2yoF 1m Dirt 120lbs +penalties
The freshman fillies will be headed to the gate on Sunday afternoon, looking to move their way up the ladder and it’s a big one – The Sorority Stakes, here at the Jersey shore. It’s well documented that I’m horrible trying to pick these baby races, but here we go… I’ll put Perfect Illusion in the top spot off of her late running ability and the added distance of this race. She closed to be four in that graded race at SAR, and I just can’t get past her… traffic is the only question. I think Take Me On is going to be a great horse and today could be where that greatness takes a step forward. She looked good winning at SAR and I think that is just the start of what will be a special career. Ready To Act is the only two-time winner in the field, so give her a shot to make it three in a row.
Like I said, I’m horrible at these races, so let’s grab a cold snack and head for the rail.
Here’s the Field –
Got the job done last out, breaking maiden at GG and that closing effort may prove that she wants to go longer. She also closed in her debut race, so I’m looking for her to want this added ground and she could pull and upset at a good race. I’d user her on those tickets.
Another that broke maiden in her last-out race, taking down Cal-bred types at LA. They made some major equipment adjustments in that race, and the results are pretty obvious. She settled early and poured it on late to take that, so she’s another that certainly could benefit with the longer distance in this one.
The on-going story of broke maiden last out is continues as this one went wire to wire at PLN to secure her first victory. That was in start contrast to her first out effort where she just didn’t seem to raise a foot. Maybe she figured this racehorse thing out and is ready to keep it going.
Won big at CD on a soggy track, getting her first win, then threw an absolute clunker in the Schuylerville (GIII) at SAR in her most recent. The barn may be hoping that the rain scheduled for Monday gets there a bit sooner or she needs to show a bit more.
Broke maiden in quick time, making her first start for the new barn after changing hands for $250.000. Sharp outfit knows when they have a good horse and they jump into the deep end with this one, and I don’t think they are doing it for nothing… I look for her to run a big big race today.
A mixed bag from her three starts as she was third in her debut, an abbreviated sprint at TAM, then failed to show much when sixth at CD only to bounce back and win in wire to wire fashion last out, over that same strip. I like her and look for her to have a big career… don’t ignore her today, either.
Broke maiden at WO, beating a nice group of horses, then got into traffic in the Schuylerville (GIII) at SAR in her most recent. She was only two lengths back in that race and certainly could have been closer… the added distance here is calling her name.
Back to back wins, breaking maiden by a head then taking down Alw foes by a length, both of those races at LS. She’s the only two-time winner in the field, and that may tell you something about her ability. She had a nice work here earlier in the month… she has a lot of upside.
They don’t write checks at the quarter pole… and that’s good news for this one because she is proving to be an outright closer. She broke maiden at CD coming from far back and was fourth in the Schuylerville (GIII) last out, again, closing a late gap to be fourth beaten a length. The distance should be her best friend.
