Secret Song  Blushing Meadows  Moran D       3/1 123

Was closing at this distance when sixth in the Diamond (GII) then came back to win at a mile getting the job done in the Thunder Road (GIII) in SoCal.  He’s been on the board in fourteen of twenty-two starts, so he’s certainly no stranger to the winner’s circle or bringing home a check.  I’d expect more of the same here…  right in the thick of it, getting some money and perhaps taking another picture.

2
 Steel Kelp  Serenity Stables  Desormeaux K J    5/1 123

This old boy certainly doesn’t appear to have lost a step… now a 7yo and fresh off of a win in the San Luis Rey (GII), where he took marathon horses wire to wire at 66/1 odds, it’s good to see him come back on the turf, where he’s won a majority of his eleven races.  On the board in twenty-six of thirty-four turf tries tells you all you need to know.

3
Chrystal Pip  Mb Stables  Bejarano R        6/1 123

Has thrown a couple of less-than-great performances after besting Cal-breds at SA to kick off his ’16 season.  But now he changes hands over to the Super-Stable, so let’s see if they can get a bit more juice out of the fruit.  His best tries this year have come on the grass, and he’s never been off of the board in five lifetime starts while on the lawn.  He’s a bit of a wildcard here.

4
 Tucson  Aer Stables  Alvarado J        4/1 123

Another 7yo and man is it good to see these older guys still running at peak performance.  A win and two runner-up tries from his three seasonal starts, all vs. graded horses and he was in the thick of each race.  Nice win in the FG Hcp (GII) in Feb and just missed last out while closing down late.  Give him a look.

5
 Classical Composer  Yahudi Stables  Castellano J J      9/2 123

Back-to-back wins including a wire-to-wire win in the Pan Am (GII) at GP last out where he just rung-em-out going a mile and a half.  They were coming to him late in that one, but he certainly knows how to control the pace and bring home the bacon although he’s one of the lighter raced horses in this field.  If he gets out in front with no challenge, watch out.

6
Wheres Those Stars  Pseven  Pennington F        15/1 123

No wins this season and his best race was a third place finish v. OptAlw horses at GP in his most recent race.  He did win five races last season but hasn’t seen horses like this and you have to go back to Oct to find a victory.  I’ll have to pass on him v. this bunch.

7
 Turon Warrior  Canadian Racing  McAleney J S      7/2 123

Nice closing second in his seasonal debut in the San Juan Capistrano (GIII) over the SA lawn.  He’s won half of his eighteen lifetime starts so there’s no doubt that he can run his eyeballs out.  First or second in five of his seven ’15 starts tells you that he certainly knows how to be a factor in every start.  I look for a big run here today.
