Times Square Looks to the Wide Gates

NY Stallion Series – Times Square
AQU Race #3 6 1/2f Dirt Stake
Purse $200.000 For Three Year Olds Foaled In NY.

1 Jupiter Moon Big Jd Racing Castillo I 124 —

Gets a penalty for his win in the Sugar Bowl last year but does get a decent gate to help him negate that disadvantage. I liked his effort in the Gander last time from the wide gate over a trip that seemed too far so this step back to sprints will see him at his best.

2 Hound Dog Threshold Franco M 122 —

Still a maiden but placed several times at this level, so I think we have to forget about his inability to win so far. He will be right in it again but will have to find the line at the right time today.

3 Blowguns Whisper Night Rider Stables McCarthy T 122 —

Won over this course and distance last time and that is a big plus even if it was only a maiden claimer. I like this one as an improving sort and he could end up giving us some value if the odds monkeys ignore him.

4 U Cant Catch Me Patterson Stables Spencer J P 124 —

Gets a penalty for a free track stakes win but those races can take some winning, and he shouldn’t be overlooked here. Managed to pull Jamie Spencer despite having zero dollars in his win pot and his works are sharp. He could be the dark horse here.

5 Licit D J C Racing Stables Hernandez R M 122 —

A consistent sort only just out of maidens, but he is better than that and could be hitting his straps at the right time. As is the case these days all the works of these horses regardless of class or form are pretty much the same which is becoming an anomaly these days but at least that proves he can live with this class on the gallops.

6 Family Fun La Canada Racehorses Davis D 122 —

Two good efforts in the Runyon and the Gander tells us that he is on the verge of winning a race like this. He will certainly be in it at the end and may be the one to get his nose down at the right time.

7 Mutiny For A Dime Asgar Lezcano J 122 —

Only just behind Family Fun in the Runyon he was closing well that day and will appreciate this extra half furlong. Another with just a maiden win to his name and yet working the same as everything else he is certain to be strong at the end if the pace is hot.

8 Red Dirt Outlaw Royalty Stables Worrie A S 122 —

An expensive claim as a two-year-old it took a gelding operation to finally get him in the winner’s circle last time, but that may be the key today. Sometimes that little operation can unlock some special attributes and I think the key to his improvement curve has been found and he will go on to run big today.

9 Jameson Red Fox Farms Carmouche K 122 —

Having said they all work the same here is a three-year-old that worked 1.10 not so long ago which puts him way ahead of these. Of course, as we know, works mean diddly squat these days so it is no surprise to see him with just the one win. His style will be suited by the outside speed push, and he could well be in front inside the last furlong.

SUMMARY
These races tend to be dealt out evenly, so this is a matter of picking the horse whose turn it is today. I think Jameson is better than a one race winner and could make all and win but I also think Red Dirt Outlaw is on the verge of proving his worth. They are both drawn wide so it will be up to the race engine as to whether they win but that is where I will settle.
