Providence Stakes
6 Furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $125.00 Open 3 Year Olds And Up Foaled In ON.
This race was another classic four runner stakes race result where we were left wondering just how on earth we are meant to pick winners. That is not saying that the winner didn’t deserve the success, he was in fact very gutsy, but I am left wondering just how much that extra two pounds cost the favourite in the run to the line. Here is how the four runners went about their business:
1st Traffic Court, trained by Night Rider Stables
We have seen this speedy five year old show bags of early speed in his last three races but today either by luck or design he was taken back to trail the small field. He was never far away and the pace was honest enough to give him a chance and once he started to get to the leaders you always felt he was going to get the nod. Battling gamely he made it in the last strides to win by a nose in the sort of winning time that makes you sit up and take notice. He is clearly better than the class he had raced the last few times and with this race in the bag I would expect him to have another crack at graded company in the not too distant future.
2nd Gsin, trained by team 7 Illusions
The clear race favourite he ran the perfect race. In the stalk but not fighting the leader he moved up with two to run and quickly went clear looking the likely winner at the furlong pole. It seems however that the two pounds extra he was carrying was more like a heavy anchor inside the distance and he faltered enough to be collared and passed in the last strides.
3rd Impact Heard, trained by Chili King Stables
Claimed for thirty five dollars last time he struggled to get on terms but kept on well enough to be beaten less than a length in the end. I don’t think his trainer will be too disappointed by this effort and he should be worth another shot at this type of level.
4th St Emilion, trained by Mo Mentum Farm
Went off pretty quick and raced into a clear lead in the first quarter. As reported in the preview for this race though he has been finding very little at the end of his races and he faded badly again today.
