RACE 1 SA       Barrera Stakes (GIII)

When you win 50% of your lifetime starts, you got a pretty good career going!  Ekli Stable’s Mojoboa is doing that, after winning the Barrera Stakes (GIII) over the fast SA strip on Sunday, getting the seven panels in a final time of 1:21.56, a new stakes record.  27/1 shot Entertaining was a length back in second, with O M Guerrero in third.

The field of nine got away from the 7f chute with Entertaining bouncing out quickly from the far outside.  Break Fast back towards the rail, Silver Swillie from the outside, Chit Chit and Sexy Laugh.  Mojoboa from the rail, Magic Time, O M Guerrero, and Kruz Addiction was the early trailer.

Midway down the backside, five furlongs to run, Entertaining now showing the way by a length and a half.  Break Fast and Chit Chat trying to keep that one honest, Mojoboa from the rail, Silver Swillie from the far outside, and Magic Time between that pair.  Another length back to Sexy Laugh, two back to O M Guerrero and Kruz Addiction was eight lengths from the leader, at the back of the field.

Moving around the far turn and past the three-eighth’s pole, Entertaining was now leading by two lengths.  Break Fast still there, Chit Chat four wide, Mojoboa still on the rail and a length behind that one.  Magic Time three wide, Silver Swillie still widest of all, and Sexy Laugh in a bit tight.  Another two lengths back to O M Guerrero and Kruz Addiction could still see them all.

Now into the lane and just a furlong left to run, Entertaining’s lead was down to a length as Mojoboa was closing in fast.  Break Fast still trying to stay with them, Magic Time a length behind that one, Sexy Laugh, O M Guerrero finding a late turn of foot from the extreme outside.  Silver Swillie next to that one, Chit Chat putting the cue in the rack and Kruz Addiction was done for the day.

Inside the final 150-yards and down to the wire, Entertaining was all out, but to no avail on this afternoon – Mojoboa went right on by and under the wire a length in front to take the win.  Entertaining was second, O M Guerrero closed well to get third, just in from of Magic Time.  Break Fast was tiring late in sixth, Sexy Laugh seventh, Silver Swillie eighth, a tiring Chit Chat in ninth and Kruz Addiction trailed throughout.

Mojoboa is a 3yo bay colt by Balboa – Mojo Lady, by Il Miglio Fabro, and he was bred by his owner, Ekli Stable, in AZ.  This was his fourth win from eight starts, his first graded victory, and he now shows $145.320 in earnings.
