Six Sophomores Seek Star Shoots Success

Star Shoots
$125.00 For Fillies Three Years Old
6 Furlongs – Dirt
Woodbine – April 25, 2026

Six three-year-old fillies signed up to tussle in this year’s Star Shoots North of the border at Woodbine on Saturday. With no edition having been run last year this will be the fifteenth running of the sophomore sprint. All will carry 121 pounds with the exception of Crazy Coco who picks up two additional pounds as a reward for having won two WV bred stakes races last season. A wet track appears likely with a 78% chance or rain predicted as of this writing.

1. Smugglers Point (Williams9/D. Moran) She was claimed for $17.50 in February and immediately won first time out for her new barn in an optional claimer where she was protected by the condition. She took a step up in class and made her graded stakes debut in the G2 Fairgrounds Oaks where she finished tenth. She cuts back to the six-furlong distance for this one and faces an easier assignment. She has been in the money five of her seven lifetime starts but not yet in stakes company.

2. Iron Hooves (Angelos Stable/L. Salles) Won her last race by five lengths in a State Bred allowance at Parx. In total she has won two of her five starts and is making her second stakes attempt here having finished eighth in the Silverbullet Stakes at the Fairgrounds. She raced with Lasix for the first time in that five-length win and is indicated to run with it again. Could be finding her best form.

3. Shes Chasing Me (Mb Stables/R.M. Hernandez) Has been a model of consistency in her eight races finishing in the top three in seven of them including in five straight stakes starts. Coming from the top barn and having been knocking on the door so consistently at this level she is obviously a danger to come out on top.

4. Crazy Coco (Yates Racing/P. Husbands) Is a multiple stakes winner having scored in two WV bred contests. By virtue of that success, she gets asked to carry two pounds more than her rivals. She has run twice this season and has been second twice in two smaller stakes races missing by less than a length in both, so she carries her good two-year-old form forward. Expect her to be in contention at the wire despite the additional burden.

5. Party At The Shire (Nakamura Stables/D.Z. Gaskin) Went three for three in an undefeated two-year-old season. Has not found the same success as a three-year-old but has been asked to do more with three of her four races this season being in stakes company where she has finished off the board. Her one non-stakes start in 2026 was a winning effort in an overnight at Tampa Bay Downs. Gets another shot at stakes success today.

6. Extra Red (The Sidley Stud/L. Contreras) Homebred filly has two wins in five starts. This will be her third stakes attempt and she is seeking to finish on the board for the first time at this level. Posted her highest SRF speed figure in her last start which was a winning effort so she might be on an upward form cycle. She also was cutting back to sprinting in that last race which seems to be what she likes.
