1 1/16 Miles Dirt Stake Purse $100.000 Three-Year-Old And Upward. At FON
1st Burger King Serenity Stables 7-1 (HRP) 3-1 (SRF)
Well, I said in my preview Burger King was practically the favourite but placed him well back in the finish. I was wrong on both counts: he went off as a 7-1 longshot and scored an impressive win. The one who got everything right was Serenity Stables who bought him in March for $85.00 and placed him here for his first start for the rebuilt stable and what that purchase did in his first start for his new stable was to jump out of the gate in the lead and carry on to the finish line for a neck victory in only his thirteenth start.
2nd Finding Nemo Night Rider Stables 9-2 (HRP) 8-1 (SRF)
Wrong again. I placed Finding Nemo high but called him a longshot chance. Turns out he was the second favourite and finished right there. Also turns out he was a very clever claim for Raj with a sharp starter allowance win and now a stakes place. At seven years old with 40 races under his belt, he’s a surprisingly consistent deep closer, and he did that impressively but fell a neck short in his stretch run.
3rd Big Bang Boom Rock Creek *2-1 (HRP) *3-1 (SRF)
Race favourite Big Bang Boom stalked the pace closely throughout and made a strong move in the final strides, but the winner wasn’t to be denied and the closer took second in the final jump.
4th Cheveley Chateau The Sidley Stud 23-1 (HRP) 8-1 (SRF)
Longshot Cheveley Chateau forced the pace from the start and continued on with courage to finish only a half-length off.
