$100.00 (plus NJ-bred incentive) 3yo 1m70yds Dirt 122lbs +penalties
That was interesting… both The Card and I were way off base in Saturday’s The Long Branch BC but when the place horse pays $606.80 and $132.20, I’m guessing most people did. Saturday at the shore proved that Suffering Fools do in fact win… as a matter of fact, it’s two in a row for the gray gelding as the Alydar Stables‘ trained sophomore turned this mile and a sixteenth test into a laugher. Making every call a winning one, he opened up a clear lead and cruised home to win by two lengths. The final running time was 1:422 over the muddy MTH main track. That’s four wins from eight starts, and if you throw out the two bad races on the TC Trail, he’s first or second in every start. Congrats to the Connections!
Wet tracks can lead to out-of-the-ordinary results and that is the story for Cringey, dismissed by the public at 99/1 odds. The Choppy Inc. gelding tracked the pace throughout and just kept going, running the biggest race of his life. It was another neck to my top choice, Mb Stables’ Poised in third, the three-quarters of a length to D J C Racing Stable’s The Piano Man taking the minor share of the $100.00 purse. Ten lengths covered the field of nine and there were no exclusions from this one.
