It’s no secret that Speightstown was one of my all-time favorites and I’ve been lucky enough to own a couple of his RL offspring. We look at the field of nine sprinters set to go six panels in the Speightstown Sprint on the LS main track, and no lack of speed or talent here.
I’m probably going chalky in this one but I’ve got Gunga Jung as the top pick. He won the GP Sprint Championship and has two other runner-up stakes efforts this season. It’s a tough group and trip will mean everything, but I like his just-off-the-pace style… it could be the key.
I’m going to look for some value in my second choice and put Max Party in that spot. He was a runner-up at WO last out vs. stakes types and may be sitting on a big race. Five furlongs, then five and a half… today it’s six and I think this is right where he wants to be.
The Card sees it far different from me and that kind of explains this race – it’s anyone’s to win.
