Clandestine Healer and Virtual Handyman Lock Horns in Crystal Water Stakes at SA

                                               Crystal Water Stakes
1 Mile Turf Stake Purse $100.00 Three-Year-Olds And Upward Foaled in CA. At SA

Crystal Water Stakes has been around for quite some time. Sort of a cross section of owners here at HRP, even I won one edition. First round Hall of Famer (If they ever get around to it.) Jerry Garcia Racing won the first edition. I’m not going to write every little bit about the history of the race, but it’s fun to just scroll through there and see who did what and who did who in the past. I mean, look: Night Rider Stables won this race back in 2012, and I’ve picked him to win this edition; Onlineracingclub.com won in 2022, and I have them to come in second… fun! Here’s the field:

Horse                                  Owner                               Odds  SRF

Clandestine Healer             Night Rider Stables            *2-1        99

Virtual Handyman               Onlineracingclub.com         5-2        98

Im King Of The World          Bkm Racing                       3-1        95

Train Station Day                Invicta Group Llc                4-1        96

Woodcock                          Spankys Barn                     5-1        94

Soho Cat                            Ashwood Farms                 8-1        94

Mambo Rock                      Mo Mentum Farm             10-1        93

Twin Disco                          The Sidley Stud                20-1        94

Mambo Rock                        Mo Mentum Farm                93

Mambo Rock has not been paying much attention to turf races lately. In fact, his most recent race was his first race on turf in five races, and it was a sprint. It’s been nine races since he tried a mile turf race, but at least it was a $100.00 stakes race in which he ran fourth.

Train Station Day                      Invicta Group Llc                       96

Train Station Day comes here off a victory in the $30.00 Patterson Stakes at TUP and two of three allowance races before that, so he has done a good job of earning back the $20.00 purchase price that Invicta Group Llc paid Spankys Barn to acquire the gelding.

3   Soho Cat                   Ashwood Farms                94

Soho Cat comes here in sharp router form with two wins and a second at 1 1/16 miles or longer turf in his last three races. And don’t worry about shortening up to a mile. The last time he raced a mile, he won, and he won faster than my win choice in this race.

4   Virtual Handyman                      Onlineracingclub.com                98

When Riggins Racing claimed Virtual Handyman for $20.00 from Wood Duck Stables, they had lofty plans for him and immediately began entering stakes races with some in the money results culminating in a victory in the Grade II Secretariat Stakes at CNL and yet, in spite of two more allowance wins, they lost him to a $25.00 claim six races later to savvy Onlineracingclub.com who took him off the track for six months. When they brought him back in January, he scored a shocking 77-1 win in the $175.00 Unusual Heat Turf Classic at SA and followed that with a second-place finish in the $110.00 The Turf Classic at TAM. From performance to works, he figures right there at the wire.

5   Im King Of The World                Bkm Racing                    95

Im King Of The World seemed to be developing nicely for Tockyocky until they put a $25.00 price tag on him and Bkm Racing grabbed him. Since that claim, he has won seven of thirteen and placed third in two $100.00 stakes races. He comes to this race off three wins and a second in expensive allowance races.

6   Clandestine Healer               Night Rider Stables                      99

Up until four races back, Clandestine Healer had never been noticed as more than an allowance or claiming horse, but long about race number thirteen, Raj took notice in something and claimed him from Barcelona Farms for $15.00, tested him in a $40.00 claiming sprint and lost by a length and gave him a little break and then an almost identical performance in an expensive sprint overnighter at SA with the same result. And then I’m guessing it was that mile turf work on April Fool’s Day that was no joke, 1:34 2/5H, that made his connections decide to place him all the way up to the Grade III American Stakes where he placed second with a nice closing kick. I think he’s sharp enough to do that again to do the again and win this race.

7   Woodcock             Spankys Barn                94

Woodcock has aimed high most of his career, but it sees the highest he has reached is third in the $175.00 CA Cup Derby at SA. He came up at auction this March and was sold by Royalty Stables for $107.00 and won his first race for Spankys Barn, a $70.00 sprint allowance/claimer at SA which leads him to this race.

Twin Disco              The Sidley Stud                     94

Twin Disco took five races to break his maiden and did so in a cheap dirt claimer, took another five to win again and by then he was trying turf route starters. He was looking around. His most recent start was a third in a turf route allowance. Now, A turf route stakes race. Still looking.
