Sexton Mile – GIII
$400.00 – For Three Year Olds And Upward
1 Mile – Dirt
Lone Star Park – May 25, 2026
There is something pure and fair about a mile race. You need some speed, but you also need a little stamina. You can’t plod but you also have to stay. Six horses will line up for one of those mile battles in Texas on Monday with a substantial $400.00 on the line. A Memorial Day Texas battle that might not be on par with, say, The Alamo but still should provide some racing fun in the Lone Star State and will give one of the barns involved something to celebrate and remember.
1. Wyatt Langmore (Luz International/F. Prat) Multiple stakes winner who has been close to adding a graded win to his resume on a couple of occasions but never quite got to the wire first. He has won nearly $800.00 in a successful career, but the six-year-old gelding has appeared to have lost a step in recent races having not hit the board in three stakes attempts since winning The Bet On Sunshine at the end of 2024. His latest starts have been good in the money finishes in optional claimers which encouraged Luz International to dip in and claim him for $32.00 out of his last race. Is being brought back a few weeks later in this graded event so the new barn must like something they are seeing.
2. Sky Rider (Nakamura Stables/I. Castillo) Won the Affirmed Stakes at Santa Anita last year as a three-year-old and missed winning the G3 BC Derby at Hastings by a scant nose. All four of his stakes starts were solid efforts and he returns to higher level racing after six solid in the money finishes in overnights. That streak includes a win in his last start in at NW of 4 at the prestigious Keeneland Spring meeting. He comes into this race in good form but steps up and makes his first stakes start outside of age restricted events.
3. My Tomorrows (Maxmillion Farm/R.A. Vasquez) The first of two entries from this barn is coming into this race off of a second-place finish in the G3 Westchester where he earned a 100 SRF speed figure which was the highest of his career. He finished third in the G3 GP Mile in the race before that so he is obviously in good form and has to be considered a threat at what might be turning out to be his niche distance.
4. Propel (Maxmillion Farm/L.R. Rivera) The second Maxmillion standard bearer is a stakes winner at the mile distance having won The Stymie last year. He tailed off a bit after that win and was picked up for $35.00 by his new barn in a private sale last October. He appears to be coming back into form having finished second in The Knicks Go three weeks ago on Derby Day. He was only a half of a length away from the winner on that occasion and gets brought right back so the trainer must think he retains that form. I do think the entry to his inside is the stronger half though.
5. Devil Viking (Broken Spoke Stables/M.E. Smith) This five-year-old was actually a Maxmillion Farm homebred who was purchased by Broken Spoke exactly one year ago. He has raced six times for the new barn and has earned his two career wins in that time. Gets a class test in this race by making his first stakes attempt in his twenty-first start. He gained his career high SRF speed figure in his last race win and has works that seem on par with the field.
6. Star Vault (Mb Stables/D.E. Centeno) This barn has won two out of the last three runnings of this race and looks to get back into the winner’s circle having had a two-year winning streak snapped last year when the race was won by The Sidley Stud and the late Distant Breeze. Star Vault is a multiple stakes winner including the G2 Cigar Mile Handicap which he won on a muddy track. He has not won in three starts this year, but his competition should not take comfort from that as two of his three races in 2026 yielded 100 SRF speed figures and he just missed taking the G1 Santa Anita Handicap by a neck. Cutting back to a mile for this and has to be considered the main threat.
As stated above, Star Vault has shown good form against top level competition this year. I think he will prefer the mile distance and will make him the pick. I will put the two stablemates right behind him with My Tomorrows in front of Propel. It seems cheesy to put two thirds of the field in my picks but there are only six horses so what can I do? Round out the top four with Sky Rider.
