Pace Sets Up The Closers In the Bowling Green

Bowling Green – Grade II (P4)

1 3/8 Mile Inner Turf Stake Purse $250.00 Open 4 Year Olds And Up.

1st        Tom Kha Gai                  High Voltage                  Centeno D E   2:10.95

Either the race engine or some playing with the gaming buttons turned this race into one which only looked to have average early pace into one with very fast early sectionals which set it up perfectly for the closers. It doesn’t happen often but when it does it is always exciting and in the end this six year old that has been admirably consistent in his fantastic career was the one who benefited the most.

Normally closet to the pace his horse lead speed put him quite a way back as the leader made this a crazy early pace which would bring him into it late. With a finishing time of 2.10 and 4, far quicker than when he was beaten in the United Nations last year he may even have found a little bump in his improvement curve which with these marathon trips coming to the fore in the coming months may see him finally get the grade one success he deserves.

2nd       Kegger                              Ajm Stables                   Lezcano J         2:11.16

The winner in this race last year with almost exactly the same pace set up as today. Last year he managed to find the line at the right time today he didn’t, the perpetual problem for the deep closer. The trainer has done a great job since claiming this six year old who is always a danger in these sorts of races and seems to time his runs better with the new stable.

3rd        Boss Spearman           John Henry                 Velazquez J R     2:11.28

A loose stalk against a fast pace he was always going to be susceptible to the late closers and so it played out as he just whacked away for third. He seems to have established himself on the grass now but he is no one trick pony and he could equally switch back to the main track if the trainer decides.

4th        Dangerous Fugitive    Night Rider Stables    Davis D              2:11.30

Raced with Boss Spearman in the loose stalk and suffered the same fate as the closers claimed them late.
