1st November Storm Mb Stables 3-1 (HRP) *4-5 (SRF)
I must say I was stunned by the general public’s opinion of November Storm allowing her to off at nearly 3-1. In my slanted view, she looked unbeatable and lived up to my belief with one of the best performances of her life, laying eight lengths back on the backstretch before unleashing a powerful closing drive to an easy three-length victory.
2nd Explorer Avenue Z 5-1 (HRP) 3-1 (SRF)
Explorer continued performing very well in marathons with a performance similar to her last in the RGD. Here she dueled from the opening of the gate with Lightning Blackout to the stretch where she took over and drew out only to be run down by the explosive finish of November Storm.
3rd Lightning Blackout Maxmillion Farm 18-1 (HRP) 20-1 (SRF)
Ha Ha, Max! I called out your savvy plan for Lightning Blackout in my preview: the RGD was her baptism of fire last out and this was the target race all along and here she proved she’s a marathon horse. At long odds, she dueled with Explorer from the start all the way into the stretch before weakening. For her first 1 1/2 mile race, it was impressive.
4th Stunning Princess First Flight Stable 7-1 (HRP) 15-1 (SRF)
In my preview, I flattered Stunning Princess that she might be ready to step up and hold her own at this level and distance, and I think she showed she can handle both as she gave an even performance that lacked her usual late kick. I say give her time with these until she gets her sea legs and she will add flying down the stretch.
