-When they line two year olds up at this time of year the head scratching usually runs rampant as most runners start to look the same, when they are fillies lining up it’s usually a touch worse. Let’s take a look, throw some darts and try to land on a money making proposition. Valedictorian from Nakamura Stables stands out here like a sore thumb and would be classified by most handicapper’s as a mortal lock if able to repeat her effort in The Schuylerville Stakes. There is no particular reason to think that she won’t improve again here, but with two year old fillies I hate to take the expected price or advise taking it, regardless of that, she is clearly the horse to beat. Majestic Alice from TwinTowers Racing made her first appearance on the dark side of the tracks and the conditioning move paid off as she came over to the money side and has run two strong races in a row, one a maiden breaker and lastly a fourth place finish in a stakes race when well compromised at the break. “Alice” gets no favors here in the post draw, but still charts with more than a fighting chance and is one of only a few that look to have a shot at the top pick. Tech Daughter from The Sidley Stud broke her maiden by four emphatic lengths and then followed that run up with a head victory in an allowance race. She is improving and stepping up again but she should be sharp enough to give you a good sight most of the journey and I can’t fault those who pick her. Champagne Shimmer from Acber Farms steps up after breaking her maiden in Philadelphia. Her first start was also a solid effort in Arcadia, so she obviously was well thought of when being unveiled. It’s certainly not impossible to imagine her improving enough to play ball here and this entire race is based upon who does and who does not improve.

Of The Rest;

Got Apples from Red Fox Farms would be a little surprising here since she was already tried against platters, however, she is sharp and has speed. In this context at this time of year that could carry her a long way, however the draw doesn’t help. Mixed signals galore.

Diamond In The Sky from DJC Racing Stables could not deal with the wide draw and also did not break alertly in the Schuylerville and finished eighth. Way too early to jump ship and with this post and a clean break she could easily make amends. Don’t sell too short.

Lucky Bluejay from Rock Creek ran two solid races against lesser to begin her career and then came undone in the My Dear Stakes last time. Not impossible for her to bounce back some here, but most likely not expected.

Forever B Young from Williams9 has started four times and has run decently in each start. She also showed grit when dead-heating for her maiden breaker last time. Draws the rail here, but appears more likely to settle off the pace slightly and try to close. Guessing game with some things to like and probably at juicy odds.

Phantom Protocol from Aer Stables is yet another runner looking to rebound after a less than stellar effort in the Schuylerville. She closed decent ground in her first two starts and then was stuck in seventh place throughout her stakes run. Guessing game here and demand some value if you believe.

Distant Thoughts from Threshold was fast enough away from the barrier to compete at two furlongs and then easily went wire-to-wire in geared down fashion in New Mexico. No idea how this distance will suite her, but she is yet another offering food for thought in this event.

Jolly Ginger, also from The Sidley Stud split the field in her debut race and then won as the heaviest of favorites in a three horse state-bred race over this track. Clearly the lesser of the barns two entries and should offer solid value to those taking the reverse angle play here.
