The Overnight Stakes on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Woodbine brings together 12 two-year-olds for 6 1/2 furlongs on dirt with a purse of $150.00, plus up to $22.50 for eligible Ontario-Breds. With every entrant carrying 120 pounds and none having yet raced beyond six furlongs, the extra distance becomes an important variable. Several arrive directly from maiden victories, while Night Fighter, Count Crapula and Warpaint In Grey already have stakes experience. The field contains considerable early speed, making the ability to conserve energy and finish through the additional furlong particularly important.
1. Blockbuster Movie — Greyhound / Contreras L — Odds: 8/1
Blockbuster Movie has progressed from his April maiden victory into competitive company. After winning a 4 1/2-furlong maiden at Aqueduct, he tried the Royal Palm Juvenile on turf and then returned to dirt at Churchill Downs, where he rallied from tenth to finish second in a five-furlong allowance. That Churchill performance demonstrated his ability to make up substantial ground rather than relying upon early speed, an attribute that could become more valuable as the distance stretches to 6 1/2 furlongs. His three-start record includes a win and a second, and he has already shown that he can remain competitive after stepping beyond maiden company. Winning chance: Contender.
2. Warpaint In Grey — Iwin Enterprise / Ortiz J L — Odds: 15/1
Warpaint In Grey won his debut at Penn National, advancing from fourth to second before getting up by a neck over 4 1/2 furlongs. His first stakes appearance was much more difficult. In the Victoria Stakes at Woodbine, he was twelfth throughout most of the race and finished twelfth. That effort came over 5 1/2 furlongs, and he now must negotiate another furlong while facing several runners who have already demonstrated stronger form against similar company. Recent Woodbine works include a :58.2 five-furlong move, so he enters with local preparation, but improvement from his stakes debut will be necessary. Winning chance: Outsider.
3. Bare Minimum — Mb Stables / Fresu A — Odds: 7/2
Bare Minimum has finished in the money in both career starts and enters after breaking his maiden at Saratoga. He was involved immediately in that 5 1/2-furlong event, racing first at each call and holding on by a neck. His debut also showed speed, as he led initially before finishing third. That consistency near the front makes him one of the more obvious pace factors in this field. Mb Stables brings him directly from maiden company into stakes competition, but his ability to maintain his position throughout his most recent race gives him a legitimate chance to handle the added furlong. Winning chance: Major contender.
4. Time And Tide — Nakamura Stables / Hernandez R M — Odds: 5/1
Time And Tide showed substantial improvement between his first and second appearances. Fifth in his Aqueduct debut, he returned at Saratoga on July 10 and progressed from fourth to second before taking the lead and winning a 5 1/2-furlong maiden by one length. His preparation for this race has included a seven-furlong Woodbine work in 1:24.4 and a six-furlong move in 1:11.1, giving him recent work beyond the distances he has encountered in competition. He has only two starts, but his most recent race showed a useful ability to advance rather than needing the lead immediately. Winning chance: Strong contender.
5. Ghost Wolf State — Waldo / Civaci S — Odds: 8/1
Ghost Wolf State improved significantly when stretched from his two-furlong debut to five furlongs at Lone Star. He was sixth initially in that maiden race, advanced to third at the second call and went on to win by a length. That progression suggests he does not need to contest the earliest stages to be effective. He has subsequently worked at both Saratoga and Woodbine, including a :58.3 five-furlong Woodbine drill and a :35.2 three-furlong move. The question is whether he can reproduce his maiden-winning finish while extending another furlong and a half against stakes company. Winning chance: Possible upset factor.
6. Night Fighter — Barcelona Farms / Salles L — Odds: 3/1
Night Fighter brings one of the strongest established stakes performances into the race. After breaking his maiden at Lone Star, he moved directly into the $75.00 Hoover Stakes at 5 1/2 furlongs and finished second. He was seventh at the first call, fifth at the second and third entering the later stage before advancing to second. That running-line progression is particularly significant in a field containing several horses that prefer to race near the lead. The gelding has now finished first, second or third in all three career starts and has demonstrated that he can improve position as a race develops. His combination of stakes experience and finishing progression makes him the horse to beat. Winning chance: Top selection.
7. Count Crapula — Aer Stables / Moran P — Odds: 6/1
Count Crapula has already competed twice at Woodbine and was fourth in the Victoria Stakes in his most recent appearance. He disputed the lead through the first three calls of that 5 1/2-furlong race before finishing fourth. Earlier, he finished third in a Woodbine allowance after racing fourth and then third. His maiden victory came from the front, so his running lines consistently show significant early involvement. He enters with a sharp series of Woodbine works, including six furlongs in 1:11.0 and a mile in 1:38.2. His local experience is a positive, although the projected pace could require him to work throughout. Winning chance: Contender.
8. Suicide Pilot — La Canada Racehorses / Espinoza V — Odds: 9/2
Suicide Pilot enters on an upward trajectory. After finishing eighth in his debut and second in his third start, he broke through at Saratoga on July 24. In that six-furlong maiden he began second, took the lead at the next call, remained in front thereafter and won by 3/4 of a length. That is the longest winning race among many of today’s entrants and leaves him with only another half-furlong to negotiate. He has also improved substantially since being gelded in June. The step into stakes company is significant, but his recent six-furlong victory makes him one of the more credible candidates to handle today’s distance. Winning chance: Major contender.
9. Pinnacle Deport — TwinTowersRacing / Moran D — Odds: 10/1
Pinnacle Deport made steady progress through three maiden appearances before winning at Lone Star. Ninth early in that 5 1/2-furlong race, he advanced to sixth, then second and ultimately won by a length. That was a pronounced late progression and gives him a running style that could fit a race with considerable early activity. His previous starts produced a third and sixth, so the latest performance represented a clear step forward. He has not raced since June 12, however, and now moves immediately from maiden company into a 12-horse stakes field. Winning chance: Interesting late-running longshot.
10. Trieste Express — Alabarda Stable / Chernetz S — Odds: 12/1
Trieste Express has raced only once, but he made that appearance count. He began seventh in a 5 1/2-furlong maiden at Louisiana Downs, moved to fifth, then second and drew clear to win by two lengths. That ability to gain positions throughout the race is encouraging for an extension to 6 1/2 furlongs. His preparation includes a six-furlong Woodbine work in 1:11.1, so he has been given local conditioning ahead of his stakes debut. The principal question is experience, as he must move directly from a maiden victory into a much larger and more accomplished field. Winning chance: Live longshot.
11. Sorokin — TwinTowersRacing / Saez L — Odds: 12/1
Sorokin owns a maiden victory from three starts and has already tested stakes competition. He came from sixth to fourth and then third before winning his June maiden at Parx, but his subsequent Hoover Stakes effort was less effective. He was eleventh initially, improved to tenth and then sixth before finishing fifth. Although he did gain positions during that race, Night Fighter finished ahead of him after making a stronger late advance. A sharp six-furlong work in 1:10.4 at Monmouth provides a positive preparation signal. Winning chance: Fringe contender who needs another step forward.
12. Frisky Rocket — Acber Farms / Wilson E J — Odds: 8/1
Frisky Rocket is the least experienced runner in the field but enters undefeated. His only start came April 5 at Santa Anita, when he progressed from fifth to third and then won a 4 1/2-furlong maiden by half a length. He has not raced since, making this a demanding return against stakes company while stretching two full furlongs beyond his debut distance. His work pattern includes both dirt and turf six-furlong drills, so he has been conditioned over longer distances than he has raced. Talent is evident from the debut victory, but the combination of the layoff, added distance and class rise leaves important questions unanswered. Winning chance: Talented but difficult to gauge.
Pace Structure & Race Outlook
This race projects to have a crowded forward group. Bare Minimum has shown speed in both starts and led throughout his Saratoga maiden victory. Count Crapula has repeatedly raced near or on the lead and was involved through the opening stages of the Victoria Stakes. Suicide Pilot took command early in his six-furlong Saratoga maiden victory, while Time And Tide moved into contention quickly before taking over in his latest start.
That potential early concentration could become important at 6 1/2 furlongs, especially because none of these two-year-olds has previously raced this far.
The horses whose running lines show they can advance from farther back become particularly interesting. Night Fighter moved from seventh to fifth to third before finishing second in the Hoover Stakes. Blockbuster Movie advanced from tenth to second in his most recent allowance. Pinnacle Deport went from ninth to sixth to second before winning his maiden, and Trieste Express moved from seventh to fifth to second before winning his debut.
That makes Night Fighter especially appealing because his closing pattern has already been tested successfully against stakes company. Bare Minimum and Suicide Pilot appear capable of carrying their speed farther, while Time And Tide may receive a more favorable tactical setup because he has demonstrated the ability to sit behind the first flight before taking command.
Projected Winner
Night Fighter gets the selection. He owns the most persuasive combination of stakes-tested form, positional advancement and demonstrated finishing ability among the leading candidates. His second in the Hoover Stakes showed that he could make sustained progress through a larger field rather than depending upon an uncontested early position, and that profile could be particularly useful if the numerous speed-oriented runners create pressure through the opening stages.
Projected Winner: #6 Night Fighter — 3/1
Main Danger: #3 Bare Minimum — 7/2
Next Threat: #8 Suicide Pilot — 9/2
Best Value: #4 Time And Tide — 5/1
Live Longshot: #9 Pinnacle Deport — 10/1
