Solana Beach Stakes
DMR Race #5 1m Turf Stake
Purse $150.00 For Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward Foaled In CA.
1 — Eva
Form
- Win record: 1 from 20 — a chronic non‑winner.
- Recent form: 88 → 89 → 94 → 89 → 97 → 79 → Figures are honest but she repeatedly flattens late.
- Trip suitability: Best runs at longer distances (1¼–1½m). At 1 mile she lacks acceleration.
- Pattern: Always runs the same race — mid‑pack, one pace, no punch.
Works
- 13 Jun PRX 1m turf 1:35 (H, 1/3) — solid stamina drill.
- 2 Jun LS 1m turf 1:35 (H, 1/3) — identical move; fitness is fine.
- 9 May PRX 6f 1:10 (H, 3/32) — sharp but didn’t translate to races.
- Overall: Fit, but not improving. No sign of a breakthrough.
Verdict: If ever there was a classic bridesmaid then this is it. 50% of her races have been second or third but she still has only one win to her name. Her third in the Orchid would be good enough to put her here with a win chance but it is hard to be confident.
2 — Sinter Of Attention
Form
- Consistent: Last four turf figs: 93 → 91 → 90 → 91.
- Win record: 5 from 18 — reliable.
- Trip suitability: Tactical style suits Del Mar mile.
- Recent races: Always finishes off her races; no regression signs.
Works
- 5 Aug DMR 7f turf 1:22 (H, 1/3) — excellent stamina + turf affinity.
- 24 Jul DMR 6f turf 1:10 (H, 4/10) — sharp, strong finish.
- 1 Jul LS 5f turf :57.4 (H, 2/5) — speed is there.
- 18 Jun LS 7f turf 1:22 (H, 1/1) — long, controlled stamina piece.
Verdict: A lightly raced seven year old looking to break through late in life she was pretty impressive in a little race at LS last time making her a bit of a dark horse here.
3 — Parnell
Form
- Lightly raced: Only 10 starts; still improving.
- Recent figs: 97 → 91 → 89 — upward trend.
- Del Mar mile win last out: Strong 97 figure, perfect trip.
- Trip suitability: 1 mile is her best distance.
Works
- 14 Jul DMR 5f turf :58.1 (H, 4/12) — sharp, professional.
- 9 Jun SA 1m turf 1:34.4 (H, 1/5) — excellent stamina.
- 21 Apr SA 1m turf 1:35.1 (H, 2/4) — consistent mile conditioning.
- 5 Apr SA 6f turf 1:09 (H, 8/10) — fast but controlled.
Verdict: The manner of her victory last time may be key to her chances here. She found the front in an optional claimer at DMR in a fairly average fist quarter but piled on the pressure late to win in a slick time without being challenged. A consistent sort at overnight level she could be ready to break through.
4 — Engine
Form
- Veteran: 26 starts; reliable but predictable.
- Recent figs: 94 → 92 → 93 → 94 — consistent but plateaued.
- Trip suitability: Better at 1⅛–1⅜ miles; mile is sharp for her.
- Style: Deep closer — disadvantaged at Del Mar.
Works
- 12 Aug DMR 5f :59.2 (b, 30/48) — decent but not eye‑catching.
- 15 Jul SAR 4f :47.1 (b, 2/2) — sharp, but short.
- 25 May CD 4f :46.4 (b, 1/1) — fast, but she didn’t improve next race.
- 27 Apr SA 4f turf :46.1 (b, 2/2) — turf speed, but she still lacks finishing kick.
Verdict: A capable six year old in a winnable race she is steady rather than impressive but in a light race she would have as good a chance as any.
5 — Hawkeye Nation
Form
- Class of field: 6 wins from 16; multiple stakes wins.
- Recent figs: 92 → 94 → 93 → 96 → 95 — elite consistency.
- Trip suitability: 4 wins at a mile or longer.
- Style: Tactical speed — perfect for Del Mar.
Works
- 4 Aug LS 6f 1:12.2 (b, 1/1) — strong, purposeful.
- 13 Jun PRX 1m turf 1:35.2 (H, 3/3) — stamina confirmed.
- 23 Apr PRX 1m 1:37.3 (H, 11/17) — steady conditioning.
- 14 Apr PRX 1m turf 1:34.4 (H, 1/7) — excellent turf prep.
Verdict: A decent four year old who is a stakes winner so there is plenty to like about her. The extra two pounds and the wide gate will make it very tough but this race isn’t as strong as her stakes win in June so she is probably the best on paper.
SUMMARY: Though there are only five runners it is still tough to try and find the winner in this even field. I rather like Parnell for this, her improving form and strong works look just right. It is impossible to write off Eva who may have found her best chance of finally getting a second win and let’s face it if any horse deserves it, she does. Sinter Of Attention may be a long shot to spice up exotics.
