I think the combination of an improving record, an ideal draw and the perfect trip combined here to negate the penalty this gelding was carrying and in the end it was a win that franked the form book. As expected he stepped off the leaders but managed to keep in touch comfortably and in the end timed his run for a straightforward win, albeit by only a half length.

I still don’t think he has reached the top of his game on the race track and he may be a decent late season type who could just keep getting better.             

2nd       Mystic Caller D J C Racing Stables Rodriguez Jam              1:47.94

The race engine is a matter of inches sometimes and this one’s finish is a good example. A no show really in the NY Derby last time, this time he followed a similar path but his run came from just a little further back that the winner and that was enough. He is a fairly exposed sort but is on the brink of some sort of black type in the near future.             

3rd        Endless Stir     Mb Stables                     Lezcano                           1:48.15            

Led them up but faded showing just how easy it is for this stable to control a race, the winner benefited and his form is on the up whereas I think this one just needs a bit more time.

4th        Liams Map       D J C Racing Stables Zayas E J                          1:48.30

Stalked the lead but found little when asked and just flattened out down the stretch. He is either a sprinter going too far or a router not going far enough but there is clearly something left to find for the trainer.
