Diametric confirmed his standing among the division’s top older horses with a determined victory in the $1,000.000 Pacific Classic (G1) at Del Mar. Sent away at 5-2 for owner/trainer Mb Stables, the five-year-old gelding stayed within striking range throughout before taking command late under Santana R Jr and completing the 1 1/4 miles in 2:00.39 over a fast track.

The Pacific Classic developed around a contested forward group, with Knowledge Is Good setting the early tone and Extreme Jet, the 2-1 post-time favorite, tracking him closely. Diametric remained positioned just behind those two through the opening stages, while Sick Boi, Without Warning, Classic Look, and Maymun were progressively farther back.

The complexion began changing approaching the later stages. Extreme Jet displaced Knowledge Is Good at the front, while Diametric continued to stalk within close range. Maymun, who had been last early, produced the most substantial advance from the back of the field and continued gaining through the stretch.

Diametric ultimately proved strongest. He moved from third to second and then passed Extreme Jet in the final portion to score by one-half length. Maymun’s sustained rally carried him into second, another half-length behind the winner, while Extreme Jet settled for third. Sick Boi finished fourth, followed by Classic Look, Without Warning, and Knowledge Is Good.

The victory was Diametric’s 10th from 25 lifetime starts and his fourth victory from six starts in 2026.
