An Mb Stables 1-2 finish was predicted for the 2027 Prince of Wales but we missed the 1-2-3 sweep and we left the dominant winner out of our top four in a five horse field. It was the rain, yeah, that’s it. If the rain was taken into account our prediction would have nailed it. Not likely. Even though the track came up muddy, our position on the winner, Pancake Warrior, was one of “wait and see” since he had only had a maiden claiming win in two career starts. Well, we saw. 

Winner: Pancake Warrior (Mb Stables/J. Lezcano) Mr. Pancake/Warriors Eye (Grandeur) Came out of the gate quick and had intentions on being on the lead from the bell. Potdamer Platz ran with him a bit until the first turn but then Pancake Warrior opened up daylight on the field and no one ever came close to keeping him company. Dominant win in the muddy going. 

Second: Ecliptic (Mb Stables/I. Ortiz Jr) Solar System/Z Command (Good Authority) As much as his stablemate was dominating on the front end, Ecliptic was dominating the trailing position finding himself eight lengths back in the early going. He was moving best of all in the late running and began mounting a run on the final turn but had too much work to do on th muddy track and never came close to challenging the winner. Clear second best. 

Third: Magical Creature (Mb Stables/L. Saez) Hardline Ranger/Magic (Graveyard) Content to stalk off the lead early and it looked like he would be the main challenger to Pancake Warrior in the stretch but hung and faded a bit clearly a third best on the day behind his two barnmates.

Fourth: Mayor Of Win City (Mo Mentum Farm/K. Carmouche) Cheveley Park/Envious (Cherokee Sunrise) Even paced throughout. Looked like he might challenge for the show spot but struggled to the wire picking up the final check. 

Preview Pick: Magical Creature – non-threatening third.

A stakes winner now in his third career start. The Prince of Wales was his first stakes effort and becomes his second straight win following his maiden breaker where he was in for a $37.50 tag. This was the fifth Prince of Wales win for Mb Stables and second in a row having taken this race with Conscientious last season. This follows a three year streak with Danzig On The Rocks (2017), Con Artist (2018) and Burning Approval (2019). It was the first win in this race for jockey J. Lezcano. Pancake Warrior now boasts earnings of $256.20. It will be interesting to see where he appears next after this dominating win.
