-Seven youngsters line up here for the chance at a Breeder’s Cup run on top of the Saturday Stakes purse. With less than twenty runs between them all, it’s obviously a dart throwing contest or craps shot, whatever term you prefer. Goodbye Dayton from Barcelona Farms has one run under his belt, an off the pace romp in bayou country that was visually impressive. He draws the outside box, but with only seven entrants, that is actually an advantage, as any rider will tell you. “Dayton” has the confirmation to run all day and should improve with the added real estate. There is no reason to think that he can’t mow them down again here. This barn breeds and sells a lot of runners, when they keep one you should pay attention. Truth Dancer from La Canada Racehorses is a totally different play than the top pick. “Dancer” has already run four times, breaking his maiden in his last start, the “key” being after he was gelded. He was under wraps last time, so it appeared he had more in reserve. It’s not impossible to see him come right back, especially going this distance. Bare Minimum from Mb Stables should go favored here and could easily win this. The country’s leading barn most years calling the shots, he has gas and moves to turf for the first time with the conformation saying a most likely “yes”. Problem from a betting perspective is that the value won’t be there and it’s certainly not a lock. Campania from Threshold probably fits the bill as the longshot play, although it’s hard to see a really big price given the short field. Campania has two starts and two competitive runs while not seeing a fast or firm track yet. Gelded before he started running, the $5.05 auction bargain has been a good story so far. If he enjoys the surface Saturday he could easily move up a notch and that would be lights out for several of his foes here.

Of The Rest;

Threat Sweeper, also from Mb Stables, was purchased privately last month for $85 after trouncing a small field of maidens in the Pacific Northwest. Given the barn, the price and the placement here, you would not be a lunatic to assume that a reasonable run should follow.

Life Is Complicated from TwinTowers Racing has three runs under his belt, all on dirt. Conformation says dirt and long, however many a dirt horse has shown improvement on sod, especially the first time on it. He should at least be poised to pass tired rivals late, regardless of the footing.

Allinmentality from Stald Gullis has run twice, both going this distance and on turf at Del Mar. He attempted to go gate-to-wire in his first start and got run down while holding second. He wired them in his next start against state breds. My issue here is the rail draw with so many question marks outside of him. Easy for me to see him getting covered up looking at the early to half mile splits at Del Mar and I have no idea how he will react if that happens. Should be a fair price if you like him more.
