ONT Matron Stakes – Grade III
WO Race #2 1 1/16m Dirt Graded Stake
Purse $175.00 For Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward.
🏇 1. Delilahs Den – Simmer Down Stable
Trainer Profile: Simmer Down Stable is having a strong 2026 season (150 wins, 26% strike rate). Reliable, consistent barn that places horses well.
Form: Her 2026 form is honest rather than explosive:
- 8 starts: 1 win, 1 second, 2 thirds
- Recent Group I run produced a 94 figure, but she was well beaten. She repeatedly runs 90–94, but rarely threatens for the win at graded level.
Works: Her Woodbine works are sharp:
- 30Aug WO 5f :59 (1/9)
- 21Aug WO 5f :58 (2/5) These are excellent, suggesting she’s peaking physically.
Preview Summary: Strong works and a capable trainer, but her form ceiling is slightly below the top contenders. Nevertheless this is an improving four year old that is drawn well although the one box isn’t great if she ends up running way back as she can do. She will need some gaming buttons or race engine favors.
🏇 2. Anoushka On Tap – Winning Link Stables
Trainer Profile: Winning Link Stables is steady (66 wins, 15%). Not a high-percentage barn, but they do get horses fit and competitive.
Form: Her last run was a big step forward, nearly stealing a Group I with a 95 figure. However, her 2026 form overall is patchy:
- Only 1 placing from 4 starts before that.
Works: No recent works listed at Woodbine. Last meaningful drill was months ago (June at WO, 6f 1:10.4).
Preview Summary: Trainer can produce a peak effort, and her last race was excellent, but her work pattern is light and her form inconsistent on an off track should it rain. She finds a nice gate to loosely stalk from and is certainly among the chances.
🏇 3. Menacing Shadow – La Canada Racehorses
Trainer Profile: La Canada Racehorses is one of the busiest barns (1139 starts, 18% wins). They know how to keep horses fit and sharp.
Form: A proven graded performer:
- 12 wins lifetime
- 2026 form: 1 win, 2 thirds Her figures (94–96) are competitive, but she hasn’t shown her 2025 brilliance yet.
Works: Outstanding Del Mar drills:
- 2Sep DMR 5f :57.4 (2/112)
- 26Aug DMR 1m 1:36.3 (1/4) These are elite works, indicating she’s ready to fire.
Preview Summary: Trainer is strong, works are exceptional, form is solid. A major player if she brings her best and let’s face it she is a winner twelve times so knows how to deliver. Another that likes to come late as usual she will need the race engine to work with her to have a winning chance.
🏇 4. Go For Glory – MB Stables
Trainer Profile: MB Stables is the powerhouse of the game (1885 wins, 26%). This is the most dangerous barn in the field.
Form: Ultra-consistent graded mare:
- 2026: 1 win, 2 seconds, 1 third
- Figures consistently 91–94 She rarely runs a bad race.
Works: Recent drills are steady rather than flashy:
- 5Sep PRX 6f 1:10.3 (7/76)
- 31Aug PRX 1m 1:36.3 (2/10) These are strong conditioning works, typical of MB Stables.
Preview Summary: Top trainer + consistent form + solid works = one of the most reliable contenders. The main worry is how her form has dropped off in her last two but the trainer clearly still thinks enough of her and that is good enough.
🏇 5. Always The One – Williams9
Trainer Profile: Williams9 has a modest strike rate (7%). They do well with improving types but rarely dominate graded stakes.
Form: She’s in good form:
- 3 wins from 5 starts in 2026 But her figures (89–94) are slightly below the top tier.
Works: Recent works are decent:
- 8Sep CD 6f 1:12 (11/31) Not eye-catching, but acceptable.
Preview Summary: Trainer is not as strong as others, form is good but not elite, works are average. Needs improvement.
🏇 6. She Grinds My Gears – TwinTowersRacing
Trainer Profile: TwinTowersRacing is a huge operation (2190 starts). They win often enough (10%) and are known for tough, durable horses.
Form: Her form is quietly strong:
- 96 figure in a Grade I earlier this year
- Consistent 91–93 range since She grinds out good efforts but rarely wins.
Works: Recent works are sharp:
- 29Aug PRX 6f 1:10.4 (3/67)
- 19Aug MTH 5f :58.2 (3/18) These are excellent, showing she’s ready.
Preview Summary: Trainer is reliable, form is solid, works are sharp. A live outsider as always from this yard she will have to get the start right to be a contender though.
🏇 7. Attack Angel – The Sidley Stud
Trainer Profile: Sidley Stud is a high-volume, high-quality barn (1921 wins, 16%). They excel with younger horses.
Form: The best 3‑year‑old in the field:
- 4 wins from 5 starts in 2026
- Latest figure: 96, winning easily She’s improving rapidly.
Works: Recent works are strong:
- 18Aug MTH 1m 1:37.1 (3/13) She’s fit and ready.
Preview Summary: Top trainer, excellent form at lower levels, strong works. A major threat despite age if she has the required class gene and the improvement needed to step up.
🏇 8. Petroleum – The Sidley Stud
Trainer Profile: Same barn as Attack Angel — Sidley Stud is dangerous with fillies and mares.
Form: Very consistent:
- 95 figure last out at Woodbine
- Always runs 91–95 She’s a reliable graded performer.
Works: Recent drills are solid:
- 29Aug PRX 1m 1:36.4 (4/17) She’s fit and tuned.
Preview Summary: Trainer in form, mare in form, works good. Strong contender for the exotics. She is a strong plodder, the key here with a wide draw is what the race engine does with her.
🏇 9. Great Eclipse – Night Rider Stables
Trainer Profile: Night Rider Stables is a strong mid‑tier barn (157 wins, 16%). They place their graded horses well.
Form: The class of the field:
- Two 100 figures this year
- Grade I and Grade II winner She’s in peak form.
Works: Recent works are light but purposeful:
- 9Sep WO 5f 1:00.2 (1/1)
- 30Jul DMR 5f :59.1 (17/36) She’s clearly being maintained, not sharpened.
Preview Summary: Trainer is solid, form is elite, works are steady. The mare to beat on her strong third in the grade one Hirsch last time and with some wide gate speed push may dominate from the lead or stalk against a field that lacks early speed.
Race Summary:
A tight looking contest we see a lot of closing here and not much speed so it may come down to which trainer is willing to click the gaming buttons. Mb’s runners have a canny way of landing on speed, either by some race engine favor or clever use of the gaming buttons but either way you would expect Go For Glory to go on speed with Anoushka On Top. If these two don’t cut their own throats they could fight it out but I think Great Eclipse could slot in behind them and if she does she may get over the top of them late on.
