The PID Mile was one of those races where the field looked completely wide open and it would all be about execution on race day. Getting the job done on Friday would be Bold Dummy, a four year old gelding who has been very consistent since arriving with Serenity Stables six months ago. Bold Dummy had shown enough potential early in his career to be entered into the Champagne at one point, but it would be here in his 20th start where he earned his first stake win. It’s also the first win in the PID Mile for Serenity Stables and jockey J Lezcano. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:40.82, the second quickest in stake history. Here’s a look at how it happened!

(1/4 Mile- :22.99)- Happy Tuesday’s Pop Up is sent to the lead, and will show the way around the opening turn while clear by about length and a half. The next four run along side one another, with the horse to the outside being half a length ahead of the one right to their outside. This puts High Voltage’s Forever Martian in second, then Malediction (Nakamura Stables), then the post-time favorite, Strike (D J C Racing Stables), while Quiet Return (John Henry) runs on the rail. Behind this group, we have Extra Grusome (TwinTowersRacing). Running in the second lane while in the seventh spot is where we have the eventual winner from Serenity Stables, Bold Dummy, and he is scored as three and a half lengths off the lead. To his outside, and within a length, we have Capiche (D J C Racing Stables) and Nice Storm (The Sidley Stud). At the back, Double Vision (Spb Racing) and Rocket Bizz (Luz International) run together.

(½ Mile- :46.55)- Pop Up cruises down the backstretch unchallenged and leads by nearly two lengths. Forever Martian, Malediction, and Strike are still lined up in the same manner that they were in previously, but Quiet Return is already beginning to drop back. Bold Dummy moves to the inside of Extra Grusome and completes the pass, while Nice Storm begins to get the same idea on the outside of that one. Capiche, however, is dropping back and falling into the clutches of Double Vision and Rocket Bizz.

(Top of Stretch, 1.8F To Go)- It’s still Pop Up out in front, as he looks comfortable entering the turn, and does not have much difficulty working is way around it. He will emerge at the top of the stretch still leading by a length and a half. Into second now is Malediction, who wins the battle for that spot with Forever Martian and is positioned well for the stretch. Meanwhile, Bold Dummy had been following that one through while working his way around the turn, so he was glad to see that one prevail in battle for second. Bold Dummy is now up to fourth, making the pass of Strike and now about to do so imminently on Forever Martian. Nice Storm lost ground to that one in the turn and now no longer looks like much of a threat. On the far outside, Rocket Bizz was getting wound up to pass a bunch and Double Vision also had plenty of room to run. Extra Grusome lacked response, and both Capiche and Quiet Return had thrown in the towel.

(Finish- 1:40.82)- Into the stretch, Pop Up looked to take this home, and still led by a length with a furlong to go. Malediction was not making a lot of progress, as now Bold Dummy was looking like his biggest challenger. The charges of Rocket Bizz and Double Vision were also looking to be major players in the outcome of this race. At this point, it may have looked like Pop Up might not win, but surely he was still going to cash a check, right? In the final moments, it’s Bold Dummy being the best of them all, taking his lane and going on to secure the win by nearly a length. On the outside, Rocket Bizz was coming, and Double Vision simply exploded forward. They would finish in a photo for place, with Double Vision coming out of no where to get that spot on Rocket Bizz. The bottom falling out on Pop Up would mean that Malediction snuck through for fourth, leaving Pop Up fifth and checkless. The rest of the finishers were complete non-factors, and their final order will read Nice Storm, Strike, Forever Martian, Capiche, Extra Grusome, and the once great Quiet Return.

About The Winner- Bold Dummy, trained by Serenity Stables and ridden to victory by Lezcano, is a four year old gelding by Bold Ruler and is out of Rum Dummy. He was bred by Mb Stables in California as a first quarter two year old and was acquired by Serenity Stables for $27.99 in the March 2026 auction. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his fifth in 20 starts and his first stake win. His career earnings are now $236.92.
