The highlight of the day at PID was the running of the PID Masters Stakes, but there would be nothing crazy about the race’s winner, as Complicated Crazy took home the win by half a length. She was our second choice and was also the second choice on the board, at odds of 3/1. This five year old mare has always been productive, but this year’s she’s been able to find the winner’s circle with more regularity. Complicated Crazy is trained by TwinTowersRacing, who wins the race for the third time and for the second consecutive year. It was Bla Bla Bla who got it done for him last year, and he also won the first ever running of the PID Masters Stakes, which was in 2009 with the late Restless Lover. Jockey L Contreras is a first time winner. Congratulations to them! The race was won in a time of 1:15.41, which is around the midpoint of past winning times. Here’s a look at it!

(1/4 Mile- :22.35)- Reflex Action pulls out to the race lead for The Sidley Stud, and will hold a length advantage as they work down the backstretch. Illusive Spark stalks the pace while on the rail for D J C Racing Stables, and to his outside and within a length, we have the post time favorite from Mb Stables, Aghast, running side by side with the entry from Winning Link Stables, Shericka. It’s a break of a length and a half or so to our eventual winner out of TwinTowersRacing, Complicated Crazy, who is able to run by herself and see how things set up in front of her. Right behind her is Avenue Z’s Chase The Money, and she has Journey East, who’s trying to give trainer Serenity Stables the PID Mile-PID Masters double, right beside her.

(½ Mile- :45.49, Top of Stretch, 1.8F To Go)- Reflex Action is still the race leader as they move around the turn and hit the top of the stretch. She’s been able to put away Illusive Spark, and that one begins to drop out of it. Aghast and Shericka inherit the second and the third spots, and at this point in the race, Aghast has no excuses to not finish well. Towards the exit of the turn, L Contreras would move Complicated Crazy to the far outside, and she would have about three lengths to make up on the leader. Chase The Money and Journey East were also both gaining ground.

(Finish- 1:15.41)- As soon as they hit the stretch, it becomes very clear that Complicated Crazy is full of run, and the mare makes quick progress on those in front of her. With a furlong to go, she’s already moved into the second position, but Reflex Action was going to try and hang in there. As much as she tried to, there was simply no denying Complicated Crazy, who was quite impressive with her stretch performance as she wins by half a length on Reflex Action. Third and fourth go to the two deep closers, both of whom were full of run themselves and just ran out of time. Chase The Money takes third, and Journey East. Shericka was nearby, but must settle for fifth, topping Aghast and Illusive Spark.

About The Winner- Complicated Crazy, trained by TwinTowersRacing and ridden to victory by L Contreras, is a five year old mare by Supercomplication and is out of Spoken. She was bred by Fractious as a third quarter two year old in California, and was acquired by TwinTowersRacing for $12.78 in the September 2024 auction. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her fifth in 24 starts, her second stake win and first graded win. Her career earnings are now $430.98.
