Beach Body Makes Waves with a Franklin Upset

Beach Body delivered a stunning upset in the Grade II Franklin Stakes at Keeneland on Sunday, October 11, 2026, rallying from fifth to capture the turf sprint at 19-1. Owned and trained by TwinTowersRacing and ridden by Hernandez R M, the five-year-old mare completed the 5 1/2 furlongs over soft turf in 1:05.88, securing a half-length victory with a decisive move into contention.

Race Recap

The $400.000 Franklin Stakes attracted six fillies and mares aged three and older, including several established graded-stakes winners. Shine To Class entered following a Grade I victory at Kentucky Downs, while Frozen Mist and Stellar Strength had each captured Grade II turf sprints earlier in the season.

Beach Body arrived off an August 29 allowance victory at Monmouth Park, where she had also won at 5 1/2 furlongs. Although her recent graded-stakes results had been inconsistent, she had previously demonstrated her ability at this level with victories in the Grade III Fox and Grade III EMJ Handicap.

The Franklin provided another opportunity to demonstrate that ability, and she capitalized with a well-timed advance against accomplished opposition.

The Running — Flow & Calls

First Call: Stellar Strength established a narrow lead over Red Bone, with Frozen Mist third and Shine To Class fourth. Beach Body settled fifth, one length behind the leader, while Spotted Cow occupied sixth.

Second Call: Stellar Strength and Red Bone maintained their positions at the front, but Beach Body advanced into third, reducing her deficit to just one-quarter length. Shine To Class remained fourth, Frozen Mist slipped to fifth and Spotted Cow continued in sixth.

Third Call: Beach Body seized command, opening a half-length advantage. Shine To Class improved to second as Stellar Strength surrendered the lead and dropped to third. Frozen Mist recovered to fourth, Red Bone faded to fifth and Spotted Cow remained last.

Final Call: Beach Body maintained her advantage to win in 1:05.88. Shine To Class secured second, followed by Frozen Mist, Red Bone, Stellar Strength and Spotted Cow.

The defining move came between the second and third calls, when Beach Body overtook the early leaders and established the advantage she would carry to the finish.

Each Runner Mentioned

Beach Body — 1st

Beach Body recorded her third victory of 2026 and seventh career success, adding the Franklin to her graded-stakes accomplishments. Her allowance victory at Monmouth Park had demonstrated her effectiveness at this distance, and she carried that form into considerably stronger company. The result was a notable improvement over her earlier graded appearances during the summer.

Shine To Class — 2nd

Shine To Class continued her strong season with another graded-stakes placing. Coming off a victory in the Grade I Kentucky Downs Ladies Sprint, she again demonstrated her competitiveness against accomplished turf sprinters. Her runner-up finish followed a narrow second in the Grade II Caress at Saratoga in July.

Frozen Mist — 3rd

The post-time favorite entered with victories in the Grade II Giant’s Causeway and Grade II Sidney Stakes earlier in the season. Although she could not reproduce those winning performances, she recovered from a midrace loss of position to secure third, adding another placing to her extensive turf record.

Red Bone — 4th

Red Bone brought established sprinting credentials into the Franklin, including an August victory in the Galway Stakes at Saratoga and a third-place finish in the Grade II Music City at Kentucky Downs. She remained prominent early but could not sustain her challenge through the decisive stages.

Stellar Strength — 5th

Stellar Strength had previously demonstrated her front-running ability with a victory in the Grade II Intercontinental at Saratoga in June. She again established the early pace in the Franklin but could not maintain her advantage, ultimately finishing fifth.

Spotted Cow — 6th

Spotted Cow entered following a third-place finish in the Smart N Fancy at Saratoga and an earlier victory in the Chicken Fried Stakes at Lone Star Park. She was unable to reproduce that form at Keeneland, remaining at the rear throughout the contest.

Winning Connections & Pedigree

Beach Body is a five-year-old bay mare by Hardline American out of Paraparaumu Beach. She was bred in New York by TwinTowersRacing, which remains her owner and trainer.

Her career record stands at 25 starts, seven victories, three seconds and five thirds, with lifetime earnings of $678.370.

The Franklin marked another graded-stakes achievement for her connections, with Hernandez R M delivering a successful ride that allowed Beach Body to capitalize on her strongest stage of the race.

Final Assessment

Beach Body’s Franklin victory demonstrated that her recent allowance success was no isolated performance. Against a field containing multiple graded-stakes winners, she produced the decisive advance and sustained it through the finish.

Shine To Class confirmed her consistency at the highest levels of turf sprinting, while Frozen Mist remained competitive despite failing to justify favoritism.

For Beach Body and TwinTowersRacing, the Franklin represented a significant addition to an already accomplished career—and one of the more surprising results of the Keeneland meeting.
