The Quick Call (Grade 3)- $175.000 Purse
SAR- For Three Year Olds
Five and a Half Furlongs on the Turf
July 17, 2022
There would be multiple winners on Sunday in the Grade 3 Quick Call, as a dead heat would be declared between Training Wheels and Creepy Rocky Party. It is the first time that there has been a dead heat in the race. Sharing the win are Gdp Inc, the trainer of Training Wheels and Mb Stables, the trainer of Creepy Rocky Party. Respectively, they have won the race two and three times. The jockeys, R Santana Jr (Training Wheels) and T Gaffalione (Creepy Rocky Party) are each first time winners. The race was won in a time of 1:02.36, the third quickest in the history of the race. Let’s take a look!
(1/4 Mile- :22.36)- Mb Stables- trained Creepy Rocky Party, one of our co-winners, goes right to the lead from the gate but he will have some company as Arindel’s Sharkamaulu also breaks really well as within a half length down the backstretch. There are three stalkers, and third place goes to the one in the middle, The Greek also from Arindel. On the rail, Inspector Legrasse (Night Rider Stables) is even with the other co-winner, Gdp Inc’s Training Wheels, who is running in the third lane. Running right behind them, it’s Norski Raider (Mb Stables), with Pride In The Ride (Asgar) within half a length. Next comes Sleepy Sunday (Rampage Stable) on the outside. Another group of three is behind them, consisting of Shadow Ball (Sting Racing), Mr Insurrection (Aer Stables), and Next Edition (Mb Stables). Blend (RNP Stables) is by himself at the back.
(½ Mile- :44.84, Top of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- Creepy Rocky Party is looking strong up front, and has put away the challenge of Sharkamaulu, and that’s not usually an easy task. Now, Creepy Rocky Party is running all by himself with a two length advantage over the closest potential new challenger. That would be Training Wheels, who continued to run three wide throughout the turn, and was able to pull ahead of Inspector Legrasse and The Greek. He hadn’t quite passed Sharkamaulu yet, but that was imminent. Further back, Norski Raider and Pride In The Ride were trying to hang in there and potentially make a move but they had a lot of work to do and not much time left to do it. Everyone else had an even more daunting task in order to make an impact.
(Finish- 1:02.36)- Creepy Rocky Party continued to run well in the stretch, and it seemed like he had the race in the bag. But, approaching the wire, he would begin to lose some power to stride, and rivals quickly closed the gap. This was great news for Training Wheels, who kept on coming in the third lane, and did everything he could to get the win. In the end, these two would end up finishing in a dead heat with Norski Raider only a half length behind in third and both The Greek and Pride In The Ride getting within a length. Inspector Legrasse is next, then finishing it out, it’s Sleepy Sunday, Next Edition, Sharkamaulu, Mr Insurrection, Shadow Ball, and Blend.
