A Dozen Derby Hopefuls in Lewis Stakes

The Lewis S. GIII (KYD)

Purse: $150.000

Location: Santa Anita

Distance: 1 1/16m Dirt

  1. Stanford, M. Gutierrez, Alydar Stables:  makes his third consecutive start in graded stakes company where his best finish was a third in the Kentucky Jockey Club GII.
  2. Bronx Bomber, T. Baze, Aer Stables:  makes the first start of his career going long after taking a stuttered stake last out.  The fast mile work seems to indicated he will take to the distance.
  3. Crop Duster, S. Elliot, Barcelona Farms:  makes the first start of his sophomore campaign and had a quick work over the track on January 29th.
  4. Perspective, S. Bridgmohan, Mb Stables: looks to repeat the effort he made in the Breeders Futurity GI where he was second prior to a disappointing effort in the Delta Jackpot GIII.
  5. Mancini, C. Nakatani, Our Athletes: another one stretching out for the first time in his young carreer. He has also only been off the board one time in eight starts.
  6. Positive Thinking, J. Ortiz, Mb Stables: Mb must think a lot of this one to be sending him out to attempt to break his maiden in GIII company. this one could be interesting.
  7. Wicked Kruz, L. Contreras, Brave: has made only one prior start on dirt going 7f where he was beat just 1/2 length.
  8. Protect And Control, D. Moran, LionKing Stables: stretches out for the first time, but has a very slow mile work. Will have to freak to win here.
  9. Discover, F. Geroux, Mojica Racing: claimed for $10.000 two starts back this one placed in is first start for his new owner.  Looks like a legitimate contender in this race and a steal for the $10.000 tag he was claimed for.
  10. Flashback Time, E. Maldonado, First Class Stable: this one was a $300.000 private purchase prior to a disappointing effort in the Sham.  Not sure if he will improve.
  11. Foolish Panther, A. Solis, Tiratzo: put in two decent efforts in graded company but will have to improve.
  12. Lost And Found: V. Espinoza, Red Square Stables: this GII winner on grass takes another shot on the dirt in an attempt to get on the KYD trail.
