A Yaddo Hat Trick For Hambletonian Stable

The Yaddo ($150.000 Purse)
SAR- For Fillies and Mares Three Years Old and Upward Foaled in NY
One Mile and One Sixteenth on the Inner Turf
August 28, 2015

Hambletonian Stable has been there before thanks to a mare named Futo Vatten that he had in his barn a few years ago.  Futo Vatten made the trainer a two time winner in 2010 and 2011, tying him with Australia Wide with the most wins in this history of the stake.  Now, Hambletonian has done one better then that trainer in picking up his third win of the race.    The Generals Out always was going to be a tough one to beat in this race, and I thought that the seven pound weight difference between her and Grey Wind would be tough to overcame, so I picked The Generals Out to be second.  How, though, does she go off at 19/1?   Well, we can chalk that up to our system of creating odds in our virtual world because in any other world, she would have been the chalk.  Congratulations to Hambletonian Stable on winning the Yaddo for the third time.  Here’s how it went down!

1st- 1- The Generals Out (19/1)- Our eventual race winner wasn’t too bothered with what they were doing at the front in the early portions, being content to the trail the field though keeping everyone in reach during the turn.  In the backstretch, however, she dropped a few more lengths off the lead and was about five lengths behind.   Began advancing to the front as the run into the turn began.   It wasn’t a swift power move where she was immediately in first, but more of a gradual run of bearing in on the rivals, inching closer and closer, and then getting up just in time.  This is a mare that knows how to win, and on this day she proved that it doesn’t matter if she’s carrying a little more weight.   Congratulations also go out to her jockey, J R Leparoux, who ran a perfect race on her.  The winning time of the race was 1:40.60, the quickest in the four years in which the race was run at this distance.   The Generals Out is a four year old filly by General Assembly and out of Outer Worldly (by Swarley).   She was bred in New York by La Canada Racehorses and purchased in the September 2014 auction for $50.000 by Hambletonian Stable.  Congrats to all of the connections!

2nd- 4- Grey Wind (7/5)- The Drabfantasy filly was shot out of the gate, and ran well the first time down the stretch, setting the opening quarter in an even 24 seconds.  Led them around the turn and into the backstretch, with a length advantage to her closest pursuer, setting the half mile fraction in :47.81.   Looked good in the backstretch.  Handled the turn well and continued to lead the field by a length a half with 1.5 furlongs to go.  Even with a less then a furlong to go, it seemed as though she might still hold onto to the win.  Unfortunately for her trainer, she was caught late.

3rd -3- Princess Mandy (3/1)- The Princess found herself in the middle of the pack in the early stages for Night Rider Stables.  Found herself racing by herself for most of the first half of the race, as she was not pressuring the leaders, but was not willing to drop back as far as The Generals Out would.  Made some advancement in the turn, and showed some interest in making a run of her own.   It would be a valiant effort and a better result then it might seem as her race line in the past performances for this would be to be a flat run.  That wasn’t really the case at the end.

4th- 2- After Revolt Party (6/5)- The surprising post-time favorite from Mb Stables found herself about a length behind the pace-setting Grey Wind for the first run around the turn.  Maintained this stalking trip for the run around the turn and into the backstretch.   Stayed with the leaders, but didn’t have the needed kick to put together a winning move.   Represented herself well, and it would serve her better to phrase it as she was fourth, rather then last.
