All that Glitters is Gold for MB Stables

04/06 BG Stakes – Grade II (P9) [KYD]
1 1/8 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $1,000.000 Open 3 Year Olds.

1st Glitter Diety Mb Stables Beschizza A

Well it was nice to see a Derby prep today without a rabbit ruining the spectacle. We saw the stable mate a natural front runner using the wide gate to set an average pace which suited this runner perfectly. Starting slowly he made stealthy ground but did look a bit boxed in once or twice but luck made some gaps along with his 16.2hh frame and he came through in time to hold a nose advantage at the line. I actually think this is one of the best of Mb’s hopes for the KYD, i liked the way he ran in the Holy Bull and his races are perfectly spaced for him to be spot on for the run for the roses.

2nd Lionking Invader Estero Farms Hernandez R M

This son of Greek God made good ground through the pack and only failed by a nose in the end which to be honest makes this performance just as good as the winners. He is a tough old boot always running well in these big races and as long as he doesnt draw too wide in the big one i can see him loving every yard of the trip and the occasion.

3rd Texas Flood D J C Racing Stables Esquivel E

Ran really well from a terrible gate getting into a good spot if a bit wide and sticking to his guns gamely all the way to the line. His poor effort in the TAM Derby remains a mystery and this was far more like the Winkfield winner we saw back in February. He only has a half length to find on the first two and when you look at how he was drawn compared to them that wouldnt be too hard to find.

4th Peppermint Force Allinthegate Alvarado J

Got well back and had to pick his way through but finished really well to be fourth less than a length off the winner. Its a shame that he is unlikely to make the KYD field but i think there is a good race in him and he looks the type that may be suited by the Belmont.

SUMMARY

Its hard to get really excited about the chances of any single horse in this race as only three lengths covered the first 13 home. That is the problem in a race without a rabbit as it is all left to heads and necks and the gaps opening up for a horse to win. Having said that i really like the winner and the second as chances in the big one.
