Angelos Breaks The “Rules” Taking Autumn Miss Stakes at SA

6   SA    Autumn Miss Stakes (GIII)
$100.000     1m      Turf      122lbs

When speed isn’t working, change course… and a nice piece of changing tactics by Angelos Stables to get Rules Are Madness back to the winner’s circle, taking the Autumn Miss Stakes (GIII) at SA by a length in a final time of 1:324 as the 7/2 post time favorite.  Dream Whisperer had the lead at the top of the lane but could not contain the eventual winner, settling for the second spot, and Silly Sue was third.

The field of nine got away from the gate in good order with Silly Sue showing speed from the outside, Thunder Doll going along with that one, Dream Whisperer and Canadiana giving chase from the outside, Rules Are Madness and Tanzania from the inside.  Anahola was next from the rail, Smart Watch just behind that one and Steal The Heart under a snug hold away slowest of all.

Making their way around the clubhouse turn and nearing the back stretch, five furlongs to run, and Thunder Doll now showing the way by a half length, Canadiana applying pressure to that one, then a gap of two back to Dream Whisperer on the outside of Silly Sue.  Two more back to Rules Are Madness, Tanzania on the inside of that one, another length back to Anahola, still skimming the rail, Smart Watch on her flank and Steal The Heart still at the rear under a wrap.

Continued down the backside and now nearing the far turn, Thunder Doll continuing to lead by a neck over Canadiana.  Two lengths back to the threesome of Dream Whisperer between horses, Rules Are Madness from the outside, Silly Sue along the rail, then a gap of a length and a half back to Tanzania, Anahola still saving ground, another length to Smart Watch and Steal The Heart continued at the rail, but was now a bit closer to the field.

Around the far turn and to the top of the lane, the field was now nearing the furlong marker and Rules Are Madness was looking at Dream Whisperer, as that pair hit the lead together.  A length and a half back, Silly Sue, Thunder Doll, Canadiana and Smart Watch were group together, giving chase.  Another length back to Anahola, moving off of the rail and looking for room to run, then another length back to Steal The Heart and Tanzania looked to be out of gas.

Inside the final 250 yards and to the wire, Rules Are Madness had kicked clear and there was no stopping her today, going under the wire a length clear and taking the victory.  Dream Whisperer had no answer for the winner but continued on a clear second, then another length back to Silly Sue, nosing out Smart Watch for third.  Anahola was fifth, Steal The Heart making up some ground late to be sixth, with a tiring group of Canadiana in seventh, Thunder Doll eighth and Tanzania close this one out.

Rules Are Madness is a 3yo bay filly by Broomstick Prince – Mad Laffin, by Sturgis, and she was bred in NY by Nakamura Stables.  Claimed for a mere $20.000 back in April of this year, she now shows six wins from fourteen starts and earnings of $303.470, and this was her third stakes victory since the hostile takeover – very impressive indeed.  Congrats to Rules Are Madness and Angelos Stables for the win.
