Another Win for Credit The Cat as She Takes Wiley

4/11/2020

KEE     Wiley (GI)

$350.000   4yo&Up F&M       1 1/16m Turf       123lbs

I did a decent job or setting the odds, then didn’t pick the horses I thought would be favored… it cost me, again.  Credit The Cat, sent off at nearly 6/1 odds against my  thoughts of 5/2, sat behind a quick pace then knew when to get in front, as she usually does.. when the money was on the line… and won the Wiley (GI) on a firm KEE turf course, getting the mile and a sixteenth in 1:39.91.  Cest And Me rallied well to be right in the thick of things took second, three-quarters of a length in front of long-shot  Rainy Day Woman (18/1).

The field of nine got away from the gate in good order with the trio of Holualoa, Rules Are Madness and Investment Return on the early gas from the middle of the track, back towards the inside, Credit The Cat, Rainy Day Woman and Cest And Me, then back outside for No Signal.  High Ended was just behind that one and Moeraki Boulders was the early trailer.

Around the clubhouse turn and they had five and a half furlongs to run, Rules Are Madness swept up to take command by two lengths and move over to the hedge.  Holualoa was a clear second, gap of two back to Rainy Day Woman three wide, Cest And Me along the inside and Credit The Cat between that pair.  Another length to No Signal caught three wide, Investment Return to her inside and Moeraki Boulders along the rail, as High Ended was now at the back of the pack.

Down the backside on this warm, bright, KY evening… Rules Are Madness was on cruise control and led by a length and a half.  Holualoa was inching up a bit, then a gap of a length and a half to Rainy Day Woman on the outside of Cest And Me.  Tother length back to Moeraki Boulders, Credit The Cat next to that one, No Signal now four wide, Investment Return on the insdie of that one and a gap back to High Ended, still trailing.

Around the far turn and now nearing the furlong maker, we had ourselves a horse race… five across the track with Credit the Cat four wide, Holualoa in the middle, Rainy Day Woman between those two, Rules Are Madness cutting the corner and up the hedge, and Cest And Me next to that one.  Investment Return trying to find more down the outside, High Ended feeling the whip towards the inside, No Signal widest of all and Moeraki Boulders now the trailer.

Deep stretch and to the finish, Credit The Cat was now slipping away from them and went on to win by a half length.  Cest And Me continued on well for the place, and Rain Day Woman grabbed the third spot.  High Ended continued on well to take fourth, then Investment Return in fifth, Rules Are Madness tiring to sixth, Halualoa seventh, Moeraki Boulders eighth and No Signal closed this one out.

Credit The Cat is a 6yo bay mare by Credit – Theatrical Cat, by Legal Set, and she was bred in PA by El Primero Rodeo.  This was her fourteenth win from twenty-one starts and she has never been out of the money… never. She’s an impressive mare and she certainly is a horse that must be watched through the summer stakes.

Credit The Cat broke alertly, allowed to settle mid-pack while unhurried, fanned four wide for the stretch run, won driving.  Cest And Me broke in hand, moved forward entering the back stretch, inside position into the lane but could not go with the winner.  Rainy Day Woman mid-pack, three/four wide trip, good effort.  High Ended trialed through most of the race, full of run late.  Investment Return wide trip was costly.  Rules Are Madness broke well, set the pace inside the furlong marker, tired along the rail.  Holualoa sat behind the pacesetter, up to take a short lead inside the furlong marker, faltered.  Moeraki Boulders was outrun.  No Signals wide trip, outrun.
