Appealing Ginger Looking to Rebound in Summertime Oaks

This years winners of the Gr. III Honeybee Stakes for The Sidley Stud group is hoping that her efforts in this years Gr. I Kentucky Oaks race was a one time thing, and maybe just a factor of the muddy surface for her outcome.

  • Summertime Oaks- Grade II Purse $200.000
  • Santa Anita Park- For Three year old Fillies
  • Mile and a sixteenth- Main Track
  • May 26th, 2019

With two victories and a runner-up finish in four starts this season, Appealing Ginger will definitely need a win here to get her back on track to maintaining a degree of respect against her other three year old fillies. She is the top earner against this group of seven runners on Sunday, and she will have to contend with a half sister in this event. She only lost by two lengths in the Oaks, and it is interesting to note that an equipment change has taken place for this event.

So looking at the rest of this field, notably a few stand out as being ahead of the field to compete here today in my opinion. Magic Command ( Allinthegate ) was moving along nicely towards the Oaks with her win in the Gr. II Las Virgenes Stakes, but placed 32nd in the standings and this will be her first race since those KY Oaks efforts. Her last try was in the Gr. III Beamont over a muddy track, but managed a third place finish. She will be looking to improve today as well.

Another who ended up placing 23rd in Oaks point standings was Polish Gemini ( Night Rider Stables ) with her win in the Bourbonette. In a last attempt at trying to make the Oaks, her trainer made a bold move and placed her in the Grade I Ashland, where she would finish out of the money three lengths shy of the winner. The winner of that event went on to claim the Oaks, so deserves merit today.

Eye Test ( Estero Farms )earned forty points towards the Oaks, and finished 18th in the running for that event. Her last event leading up to that affair was the Gr. III Fantasy where she would come away with a runner-up placing to Cardi B, who would completely fall apart in the Oaks. Has had a little time to rest, and her works have been consistent enough to keep her sharp. She will definitely be looking to be the spoiler here.

Of the final three competitors for this event, give the edge to Test Of Time ( La Canada Racehorses ) who placed 62nd in Oaks standings. After she took home the Mazarine BC Stakes last year up at WO, she struggled against Graded company in her next four starts. Her most recent was a drop to an OpClm25 affair, which she won by four. Hopefully that event put the winning ways back into her heart. From the rail will be recent $100 Ivanavinalot winner Puerto Princesa ( Paradise Stables ), a restricted Florida event. The horse does like to compete early, and trainer is hoping that the late attacking style of jockey Smith will keep her around late. The final runner is High On Haggis ( Winning Link Stables ) , half sister to Appealing Ginger. Has two wins in seven starts this year, but none have been at any higher then the ten dollar level. Both of her Allowance tries have come over off tracks so its hard to judge, but this will be a major uphill battle for her.
