Applauding The Sin took two cracks at stakes horses on the main track and was beaten a combined three lengths. The 2yo gelding went to the lawn for the first time on Saturday in the G1 Summer Stakes at WO and used a determined rally from the center of the course to claim an automatic birth in November’s BC Juvenile Turf. Crossing the wire in 1:33.83, the Arindel-trainee scored by a half-length over Duke Of Satire as he improved to 5-2-1-0 with earnings of $412.000.
Away from the outside post in the field of eight, Applauding The Sin was on the outside of a three-horse group that was tracking the pace set by Leaderfromhell. The juvenile homebred was a couple lengths behind Leaderfromhell after the quarter went in :23.42, but he was content with his positioning.
As they continued down the backside, the eventual winner eased back a couple more lengths as he was pushed another path or two out into the center of the course while Leaderfromhell was running free and easy after the half went in :46.57. Applauding The Sin was at least four lengths off of the pace as the field entered the long turn for home.
Continuing to be pushed out another path or two while rounding the bend, Applauding The Sin started his forward progression around the three-eighths pole. He had only improved to fourth when he entered the stretch, but he had erased a little more than a length off of his deficit as Leaderfromhell posted three-quarters in 1:09.87.
It was at that point that Applauding The Sin started finding his best stride and he began wearing down the three rivals ahead of him. Well out in the center of the course, Applauding The Sin still had two lengths to make up as he passed the furlong marker. With a sixteenth of a mile to go, Duke Of Satire put his nose in front of Leaderfromhell; however, Applauding The Sin had the momentum and refused to allow that rival to get away from him. The winner made the final pass inside the final fifty yards and was able to edge away for a clear half-length victory. Duke Of Satire settled for the runner-up spot as Leaderfromhell bravely held off Muzzle for the show honors. Marching Orders, Mediterranean Sea, Our Holiday, and Giannis Yes completed the order of finish.
Congratulations to Applauding The Sin and Arindel for their victory in the G1 Summer Stakes and good luck to them as they pursue BC glory in November.
