Arindel Goes One/Two in This Season’s Rego Park Stakes

While Genghis would take home the victory here in the feature at Aqueduct and earn his trainers second win of the season, his stablemate Keanu Storm was keen enough to follow him to the wire for the runner-up purse.

After six attempts at trying to break his maiden at different levels of competition, three year old Genghis has in the past three events shown that he is becoming a champion. Going at 7-1 odds come post time, his jockey Cancel who is known for his late running style, was well in control of the bay colt in the early stages, keeping him back of the pack as the field broke cleanly from the backstretch chute. His stablemate Keanu Storm raced quickly to the front leaving the chute, then while staying clear to the outside, dropped slightly back and then retook the lead entering the far turn. At this point, Genghis was still content to stay at the back, all the while keeping a close eye on what was taking place up front.

Entering the turn for home, Genghis had now slipped past the likes of Peter E Peat ( Team 7 Illusions ) and Sizzla Kalonji ( Night Rider Stables ) and was widest off the turn with a a furlong and a half to run. Post time favorite Vanderbiltt ( La Canada Racehorses )had found an opening at the rail to be putting in his late run as Keanu Storm was still on top by a little better then a length over Ballybunion ( Maletto ).

As the runners reached the sixteenth pole with Keanu Storm posting a 1:09.56 time for the three quarters, Genghis was now within striking distance to his outside flank and closing. Vanderbiltt was still struggling to get past a group of runners to his outside, but was progressing nicely. D J C Racing Stables Local Dude managed to slip into third at this point in the race with his late efforts, but struggled to hold off a determined Vanderbiltt.

At the wire in a final time of 1:15.66, Genghis had all the kick he needed to put away his stablemate in the late fractions of the race. Vanderbiltt as well would find a little more to topple Local Dude’s efforts to try and round out the trifecta, slipping him into fourth. Inject The Venom ( Broken Spoke Stables ) had just enough at the line to push ahead of a tiring Ballybunion for fifth, while Sizzla Kalonji and Peter E Peat would round out the field in seventh and eighth place.
