Arindel Sweeps the Top Two Spots in Star Shoots

Star Shoots ($125.000 Purse)
WO- For Fillies Three Years Old
Six Furlongs on the Dirt
April 30, 2022

It was a great day for Arindel in the Star Shoots, as his two fillies took the top spots! First across the wire would be Genghis Happened, a filly with plenty of experience here at WO that was looking for her stake victory. A length behind her would be Broomstick Storm, a filly who has now been second in five of eight starts. For Genghis Happened, this ends up being her third win in a row and fourth in her last five, so we may see her in the graded ranks the next time out. Congratulations go out to Arindel, who wins the race for the first time, as does jockey S Ryan. The winning time was 1:09.93. Here’s a look at it!

(1/4 Mile- :22.68)- Breaking quickly out of the starting gate would be Broomstick Storm, for Arindel, and Soul Rebel, from Rousee. The two of them would run side by side early on, and would open up an advantage of about a length and a half. Moving into the third position would be our eventual winner, Arindel’s Genghis Happened, but she did not initially start there. She would break in the back initially, but would use the backstretch to advance her position while running in the third lane. In doing so, she would get by the two who had been stalking from the start, Fire (Mo Mentum Farm) and Tragedy And Hope (Nakamura Stables). This would leave No Pain (Nj Vets) all by herself at the rear of the field.

(½ Mile- :45.58, Top of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- By the time they reached the end of the backstretch, Broomstick Storm would pull ahead of Soul Rebel by a length, and they would maintain these positions on the track all the way around the turn. Genghis Happened, for now, did not look to advance any further, and continued to run third while in the outside lane. At the top of the stretch, she would have a half length to make up on Soul Rebel, and then it would be only her stablemate to beat. Fire was still close enough to mount a challenge, but had not done so yet. Tragedy And Hope was lacking response, and No Pain remained at the back while showing little.

(Finish- 1:09.93)- Arindel had to be feeling good in the stretch as Broomstick Storm was maintaining a steady stride and Genghis Happened was nipping away at the advantage. No one else was mounting a charge, so for the trainer, is was just a matter of which one would win. Late in the stretch, Genghis Happened would be better than her stablemate and would pull away for the length victory. Broomstick Storm was never in jeopardy of falling out of her customary second spot. Fire gets third, ahead of the dead heat for fourth between Soul Rebel and Tragedy And Hope. The unexpected post time favorite, No Pain, gave no gains to those who bet on her.

About The Winner- Genghis Happened, trained by Arindel and ridden to victory by S Ryan, is a three year old filly by Genghis and out of These Things Happen. She was bred in Ontario by Arindel as a first quarter two year old, and they have been together throughout! Congratulations to the connections! The win is her fifth in 11 starts, and her first stake win. Her career earnings are now $209.240.
