13 GP The GP Oaks (GII) [KYO]
$200.000 3yo F 1 1/16m Dirt 122lbs +penalties
When you can scratch a horse as good as Feral Impact and still dominate a race of this magnitude… well, you’re probably the best conditioner at HRP. Mb Stables ended up with a two headed monster after that scratch and they ran… one two. We see a new start emerge as Soviet Sensation, only making her fourth career start, close relentlessly down the GP lane and take The GP Oaks (GII) by a head over stable-mate Intolerable. That one pressed the pace throughout Saturday’s big race, but had to settle for the place in a three-horse head-bob that decided things. Only a nose back in third, Smokey Stover’s Grazin At Sunrise set the pace but couldn’t hold off the late charge from the Big Stable. Foregone Conclusion ran on well to be fourth in the full field of twelve. The final running time was 1:42.05 for the mile and a sixteenth main track stakes.
Soviet Sensation is a 3yo black filly by Soviet Warrior – Twisted Sensation, by Twist In The Wind, and she was bred by Calia Stable in NY. She was acquired at the Dec 20 Auction for a final hammer price of $17.890 and she is now undefeated since moving to Mb Stables. Two wins from four starts, and earnings of $157.520, I think it is safe to say her best racing is in front of her.

Soviet Sensation broke in hand, settled mid-pack while unhurried 3p, roused mid-way on the final turn, closed in determined fashion, up on the wire, won driving. Intolerable away well, four wide in the first turn, up to track to the pace, continued on well through the lane, could not hold off stable-mate. Grazin At Sunrise sent from the gate, maintained the pace to the final yards, headed, settled. Forgone Conclusion just behind pace while saving ground, 3p into the lane, taken back to rail as foe drifted, evenly. Carrie Ann broke in hand, 4p into the far turn, 5p in the lane, could not find more. Match On A Fire rated back, lost ground through the far turn, re-broke, some late foot. One Awesome Night outrun, passed tiring rivals up the rail. Shining Moments in behind the pace, three wide through most of the race, tired late. Geek Time was outrun. Point Of Honor good early speed, tired. Napa Valley in behind the early pace, tired. Believer Sis was never involved, dull.
