Having competed against some tougher company in her past two starts, Immortal Steel took right to the front of this affair and as the field hit the turn for home, she was away by some three lengths. After she would post opening fractions of 22.83, then an even faster 22.74 for the second fraction, she was looking like she was going to run away with this race. She would hit the eighth pole still some two lengths in front, but the closer’s were now in full stride. It would take As The World Turns to get to just within the final seventy yards of this event before she would place a nose in front of the pacesetter. She would stop the clock in a final time of 1:09.61 at the wire and would earn her fourth straight trip to the winners circle, and her first ever stakes title. For her trainer Angelos Stable, this would be his fifth stakes victory of the season and he will soon topple the $100,000.000 in career earnings this weekend.
For Immortal Steel, her trainer definitely must feel the pride with the effort she put forth today. In her past four out five starts taking place at this oval, she has a win, a place and two show finishes for her efforts, and it seems she has definitely found a home here in New York.
Post time favorite Drop The Hammer ( Alydar Stables ) just missed out at one one-hundreds of a second in the photo at the line, and she would have to settle for the show purse money. Definitely was keeping tight tabs on As The World Turns down the lane, and if she was given another furlong to run, would have probably snatched the win away. Has been recently working down in Florida, so we may see here hit that state next for a future event.
While Asgar’s Kula was let go at some enormous 105-1 odds come post time, trainer should be proud of the effort this four year old chestnut showed in making the switch from off the grass. A final time of 1:10.21 here on the dirt could match some of the higher talent is she continues to attack the main track, so time will tell if she gives it another go next time out.
