Asgar Makes Big Statement with “Fun” Win in Lecomte

11  FG    Lecomte Stakes (GIII) [KYD]

$200.000   3yo      1 1/16m  Dirt    122lbs +penalties

The Green Card hands out the 7/1 winner, and Asgar looks to have a legitimate contender towards getting their first TC win as Fun Runner uses an amazing inside trip to nail ’em on the wire, taking the Lecomte Stakes (GIII) by a half-length, stopping the clock at 1:41.51 for the mile and a sixteenth, over the FG main track, labeled Fast.  The ON bred looked to have no interest for the first six furlongs, but when asked, the bay gelding sizzled up the rail, looking like he wanted to make another lap around the oval.  Good Knights, conditioned by Good Knights, set the pace and did most of the heavy lifting, showed a ton of guts turning back all other challengers, but couldn’t hold off the eventual winner, taking the second spot by a nose over 99/1 long shot, One Beer, owned by South Shore Stables.  It was another neck to Doc Rivers, the D J C Racing Stables trainee, that one actually having the lead for one jump, but was over-taken in the final 150-yards, that one taking the minor money.  Six lengths covered the field.
