The Ashland Draws Strong Field of Ten

The Ashland – GI (P7) [KYO]
4/4/20
KEE Race 4 1 1/16M – Dirt
Purse $500.000
Three Year Olds Fillies

One of the final Kentucky Oaks preps on offer for this years Oaks here in the grade one Ashland over the great Keeneland oval. A grade one event and a field of ten is set to tackle it. Let’s take a look at the field.

1. Tamalpais (6-3-0-1 $66.480), trained by Mb Stables

The first of three for Mb Stables in here right here and she is coming into this race off of a sixth place finish in the Santa Ysabel. This is her third Oaks prep race and if she can’t do any good in here she will not have enough points to make the gate.

2. Always Wendy (6-4-0-0 $84.940), trained by Mb Stables

One of the other Mb Stables runners right here and this filly is coming into the race off of a fifth in the Honeybee. Like her stablemate to her inside she will have to win to make the gate on the first Friday in May.

3. Freys Ugly Daughter (9-3-4-2 $67.840), trained by Gdp Inc

A former claimer right here who even dropped down to six dollars at one time in her career. She has also been sprinting almost every race so she has to do something she has never done before and run the race of her life to win in here.

4. Hollywood Phooey (7-2-1-1 $42.130), trained by Nakamura Stables

By the looks of this filly she is talented but she has not been in a race this tough. She won a non two allowance at Turf Paradise in her last start so this is definitely a huge jump in class. I don’t think she is good enough for this field.

5. Silence Of The Lambs (9-1-1-4 $113.790), trained by D J C Racing Stables

The entry for the wizard D J C Racing Stables here and she is going to try and Oaks prep race once again. She was fourth in the Busanda but now she will have to run a whole lot better in this one. She will need to run a huge race to get up.

6. Wild Again (7-1-2-0 $110.600), trained by Aer Stables

And now the next one in this field here and she is also coming out of the Honeybee at Oaklawn and she was second by a nose that day. She ran very well and if she can improve just a little off of that I think she can win this race.

7. Drink Me Pretty (8-3-4-1 $679.080), trained by Estero Farms

Last years Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies runner up right here and she has just not been able to win a graded stakes yet. She has been close a few times and I think that she can finally crack through in here. She is my top choice in this field.

8. Bite The Bullet (8-3-2-1 $401.800), trained by Mb Stables

Third and final runner in the field for Mb Stables and she is also coming out of the Honeybee at Oaklawn where she ended up finishing fourth. She will have to turn ten tables on some of these if she will be able to get up for the win.

9. How Trait (8-3-3-0 $295.600), trained by Gdp Inc

The other part of the Gdp Inc couple here and this definitely looks like his stronger entry. She was second in the Alexandra in her last start and if she has improved off of it she should be tough in here. She can definitely win this one.

10. Blue Eyed Baby (3-1-0-0 $35.640), trained by Smokey Stover

Only a maiden win for the final filly in the field here and that was way back in November. This is her first start of the year and it is a big race to come off the layoff in. She doesn’t seem to have the class and I’m not sure if she is ready for this.

Summary

Of course this is a tough field here for this grade one and it is also a Kentucky Oaks points race. My top choice is Drink Me Pretty and I think she is finally going to get that graded stakes win in here. Good luck to all in the field.
