  • The LA Derby Kicks Off the 100-Point Preps on Saturday

In six weeks, we will be running the KYD, and as this time gets closer, it is time to increase the stakes one more time in terms of the points being awarded to prep winners. 100 point races formally begin on Saturday here with the 16th running of LA Derby.

  • A Storm May Arrive in New Orleans Handicap Winners Circle Again

It’s a big day at FG this Saturday, and on the lead up to the LA Derby we will have the 15th running of the New Orleans Handicap, which sends older horses nine furlongs along the main track. It is a race that was kind to Maxmillion Farm last year, as the trainer pulled off a 1-2 finish with A Storm Has Arrived and Gran Z.

  • Chalk Up Another 50-Point Win for Mb Stables in The Rebel

The Rebel was the final 50 point race of the season, and out of the six of them that were run, Mb Stables came away with four wins. Two of them were in the same race, but certainly an impressive clip. In the Rebel, Smokin Luka would earn the distinction of being that fourth winner, giving him four of the top five on the leaderboard.

  • Patriot Prevails in Tight Runyon Photo

It was a very close finish in the Runyon as the race lived up to its billing of being very wide open. In a three way photo for the win, it would be Patriot prevailing for Mo Mentum Farm, doing so with a come from behind effort that we have not seen a lot of over the last six weeks or so.

  • No Headliners in The Runyon

The gate will nearly be full for the 17th running of the ungraded Runyon, which runs at seven furlongs for just the second time. On first look of this field, you will not really be able to find that one headliner, making this race wide open between eleven horses who would love to take the next step in their racing career.

  • Wide Open Feel for The Rebel

The Rebel is the final 50 point KYD of the season. After this, we’re doubling the stakes and moving into the 100 point races, other than a few exceptions. There are six weeks left in the KYD chase, and some trainers have to be very happy with where they stand right now.

  • Anoush Command Goes Wire to Wire in Kilroe Mile

At this time last year, Anoush Command was making an impression as one of the top contenders to win the KYD. Now, this colt is looking to do the same this year as he moves to the grass. In the Grade 1 Kilroe Mile, Anoush Command would score his second win in three races against top level competition.

  • Another Wire to Wire Winner in SA Handicap with Having A Blast

The race may have been ten furlongs, but it did not matter for the top two, as they were in those positions for pretty much the entire race.

  • Late Pass Gives Plan to Wheel a Gotham Win

Saturday would end up being a good day for Fractious as the trainer picked up wins in both the TAM Derby, and here in The Gotham. In this race, it would be a horse that he picked up in private sales last September, named Plan To Wheel, who picked up the win.

  • The Gotham Should Suit Pocantico Well

This is going to be a great weekend for the KYD Chase. Three 50-point races are scheduled for Saturday, so when the dust settles after this weekend, we can really start to look at that KYD point-board to get an idea of who seems to be safe and who is going to need some late-March or April heroics.
