Fearisque Makes Late Pass to Win Bid

NY Stallion Stakes- Bid ($150.000 Purse)
BEL- For Three Year Olds Foaled in NY
Seven Furlongs on the Turf
June 19, 2021

Late last year, Maxmillion Farm picked up Fearisque in the auction for $22.520, but did not send him out to the track right away. His patience with the gelding has been rewarded, as Fearisque is now a perfect three for three with Maxmillion after winning the NY Stallion Stakes- Bid. Once again, Maxmillion shows his prowess with turf stars, and this is one of the newer examples of that. The win is his first in the Bid, and the second for jockey L Saez, who also won in 2018. The time of the win was 1:20.44, the third fastest in the history of the race. Let’s take a look at it!

(¼ Mile- :23.29)- Instigator is the fastest out of the gate, and the longshot from Spankys Barn pulls out to a length and a half lead for the trip down the backstretch. There are three horses right behind him, and the eventual winner from Maxmillion Farm, Fearisque, in comfortably positioned right behind the pacesetter early on. He has two horses from Arindel running beside him, as The Great Goodbye and Tiberian are in the next two lines. All Lights Out was part of this group initially, too, but the La Canada Racehorses entry would restrain himself a little bit before the first turn. Acute (Night Mare Racing) was next while holding the rail, and Andes (Arindel) ran at the back.

(½ Mile- :46.08, Top of Stretch, 1.8F To Go)- Instigator remains the leader in the turn, and no one is getting up to challenge him quite yet. Fearisque is beginning to get a little closer to him, all while holding his line along the rail. He would have length or so to make up in the stretch. What was a little more telling here is how these two pulled added ground to their advantages over Tiberian and The Great Goodbye, as neither of them were able to keep up. Further back, no one was mounting a charge, and they were starting to run out of time to begin to do so.

(Finish- 1:20.44)- For a little while in the stretch, it looked like Instigator might hang on to the victory, but the persistence of Fearisque paid off in the final furlong, especially. Closing in on the wire, it would be Fearisque completing the pass, and winning by nearly a length. Instigator hangs on for second over Tiberian, who was resurgent in the latter moments. All Lights Out takes fourth, and never threatened for anything better. The Great Goodbye, Acute, and Andes finish it out.

About The Winner- Fearisque, trained by Maxmillion Farm and ridden to victory by L Saez, is a three year old gelding by Fear The Feathers, and is out of Diadochi. He was bred by Our Athletes in New York as a first quarter two year old, and was acquired by Maxmillion, via Royalty Stables, in the December 2020 auction for $22.520. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his third in five starts, and his first stake win. His career earnings are now $164.480.
