Buckingham Palace Rules Over The Joy

NY Stallion Stakes- Joy ($150.000 Purse)
BEL- For Fillies Three Years Old Foaled in NY
Seven Furlongs on the Turf
June 19, 2021

Buckingham Palace came into the NY Stallion Stakes- Joy seeming like the horse to beat, thanks to never failing to finish out of the top two for her career. Even though this was a smaller field, she still was poised to continue that streak here, and after running seven furlongs, she earned a convincing two length win. This well bred filly by State Police figures to be one to watch for the rest of the year to see how far up the ladder she goes. She is proudly owned by Smokey Stover, and the trainer picks up his first win in the stake, and jockey D Davis does the same thing. Congratulations to them! The time of the race was 1:20.65, which is one of the better ones in the history of the race. Let’s take a look!

(¼ Mile- :23.12)- Prairie Rose is the quickest of the four for Allinthegate at the start, and she takes an initial lead of about a length and a half. She’ll carry this advantage for the duration of the backstretch trip. Right behind her, she has two rivals, including the eventual winner, Smokey Stover’s Buckingham Palace, who is running to the outside of Mb Stables trained Twisted Express. There’s a sizeable gap to the trailer, TwinTowersRacing’s Starship Qanon, in the early moments.

(½ Mile- :46.09, Top of Stretch, 1.8F To Go)- As they move around the turn, Buckingham Palace gains on Prairie Rose with every stride, and pulls up alongside her about halfway through it. By the time they reach the stretch, Buckingham Palace has a length lead, giving Prairie Rose the slip. The only question at this point would be whether or not Twisted Express could have something for her. Starship Qanon was still way out of it.

Finish (1:20.65)- Immediately in the stretch, Buckingham Palace was full of run, and very clearly, there was not going to be anyone getting to her. This finish was no longer in doubt, as we could all sit back and watch her run to the wire, picking up an easy looking win. Twisted Express ends up being second best, hanging on over the late running Starship Qanon as Prairie Rose tired out.

About The Winner- Buckingham Palace, trained by Smokey Stover and ridden to victory by D Davis, is a three year old filly by State Police, and is out of Jinxed Queen. She was bred in New York as a third quarter two year old by Smokey Stover, the only trainer for which she has even known. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her fourth in six starts, and her first stake win. Her career earnings are now $250.000.
