    Bigchief Stables picked up Street Sounds in the December auction, and all had been going well for the colt until his last race down at GP. There were not many people worried about that result, but if there was any doubt that would be erased in the Cinema Stakes, as Street Sounds prevailed in a photo to pick up the win.

    Saturday would finally be Piatt’s day. The three year old filly had been a close second or third several times at the ungraded level, and always seemed to run a good race every time she hit the track. However, a stake victory had been something that had eluded her.

  • No Clear Favorite in Cinema Stakes

    This Mother’s Day at SA, seven three year olds will be taking part in the eighth running of the Cinema Stakes. This race loses some distance in 2025, as it was a mile and a quarter for the last two years, and a mile and an eighth in the years before that.

  • Shine To Class Hopes to Stay Perfect in Mamzelle

    Taking place on Saturday is a first time graded stake: the $225.000 Mamzelle at CD. This race debuted on our calendar in 2004, but had a lengthy hiatus between 2008 and 2019. Until now, it’s always been ungraded, but now this turf sprint for three year old fillies is officially a Grade 3.

    Lady Sammyantha continued her amazing run in The Derby City Distaff on Saturday, winning for the seven consecutive time and for the nineteenth time in her career. The last time that she lost a race was the 2024 version of the race, so now she gets redemption for that.

  • Edward The Good Lives Up to His Name in CD

    Ironically, the only horse that was scratched for the CD was a horse named Storm Water. The other twelve would run as scheduled in the race, with the conditions making Edward The Good appearing to be an even better choice.

  • Western Knight Cruises to American Turf Victory

    On a rainy day at CD, our pick to win the American Turf, Ello Santa ended up being the lone scratch of the race, leaving thirteen to go at it on the soft going. Not being scratched was the Our Athletes- trained Western Knight, a gelding that has really come to life at the start of the year.
