  • Painville Brings the Pain to the Field in BC Fillies & Mares Turf

The running of the BC Fillies and Mares Turf featured a couple of absolutely elite horses going up against others who were eager for the opportunity to give them the pain of coming up short in the BC. In such a deep field, Painville was not made one of my choices for the race, simply because of the quality of competition.

  • Maxmillion Farm Brings Strong Pair to BC Mile

Up next, on our look at BC weekend, we bring you the 21st running of the BC Mile, which is an open race for three year olds and upward on the grass. Alpha Ultimo would go down as the first ever winner of the race, and since then the race has seen the likes of Jagged Account (2006 and 2008), Seven Years (2014), Sir Tom (2015), and Iron Nation (2020) be just some of those who have taken home the coveted trophy for this race.

  • Nothing Stinky About BC Fillies & Mares Turf Field

A star-studded field that includes two prior winners of the race are set to meet in the 21st running of the BC Fillies and Mares Turf, which is run at a mile and a quarter when at SA. Neither of those two prior winners, La Terrifiant and Maggie Greene, were a winner over the last two years, either, so it is a testament to their incredible longevity.

  • BC Fillies And Mares Sprint Looks to Crown Its Next Champion

Congratulations to the trainers who were able to successfully qualify a runner into any of the BC races that will be taking place this weekend. In this preview, we will take a look at the 17th running of the BC Fillies and Mares Sprint as a field of fourteen looks to add their name to a list that contains the likes of Darling Harbour, Blonde Dynamite, and Avery Island.

  • Surprise Authority Steps Up in Forty Niner Handicap At 18/1

Surprise Authority had run long several times in his past, and he had done well when doing so. The last time that he had won a race, May 2022, was also the last time that he went at least a mile. Since then, he’s been sprinting and also performing well, but the gelding did not win any of those races.

  • Childe Girl Gets the Head Bob in Three-Way Mother Goose Photo

The field for the Grade 2 Mother Goose seemed to be a balanced one, and that would end showing on the odds board. It would also be apparent at the finish line, as three of them hit the line together, and you had to wonder if the stewards were going to a declare a dead heat between two of them, if not all three.

  • Nothing Indecisive About Categorical Maybe’s Bold Ruler Win

Back in August, Categorical Maybe struggled in the slop at SAR in the Jerkens Memorial, but could we blame that result only on the rain? He was on good form going into the race, and had a solid outing in an optional claimer at PRX. Returning to the graded level, the gelding could put any concern to bed in regards to that effort at SAR.

  • Better Later Than Never: It’s Mother Goose Time at AQU

After 18 years of being run at BEL, The Mother Goose is the next race to move from that track to the Big A, as the virtual renovations take place at BEL. This race is a former Grade 1, holding that status from 2005 until 2016, when it received the downgrade to a Grade 2.

  • Differing Paths Meet at The Forty Niner Handicap

Formerly known as the Kelso Handicap, a field of eleven comes together on Saturday to contest the 20th running of the rebranded Forty Niner Handicap at AQU. It’ll be the second time that race is run here, having been at BEL through 2021 until moving to the Big A in 2022.

  • Penalty Shot Sets His Sights on The Bold Ruler Goal

It’s time to take a look at the highlight of the day on Friday at AQU, which is the 19th running of the Bold Ruler, which is a six furlong sprint. The race has gone back and forth over the years, with most editions of the race occurring at BEL, but on three previous occasions, it has been here at the Big A (2009, 2019, and 2022).
