Buckingham Palace came into the NY Stallion Stakes- Joy seeming like the horse to beat, thanks to never failing to finish out of the top two for her career. Even though this was a smaller field, she still was poised to continue that streak here, and after running seven furlongs, she earned a convincing two length win.

A field of five will be going to the starting gate for the fifteenth running of the Joy, which is part of the NY Stallion Stakes. When it first appeared on the calendar, it was run on the dirt, but would be moved to the turf in 2009.

Balanced Field in the Bid Stakes
The NY Stallion Stakes continues on Saturday with the 14th running of the Bid Stakes, sending three year olds seven furlongs over the turf course. Like its companion event. The Joy, the Bid initially appeared on the schedule as a mile long dirt race, but would only be that way for one year.

The Poker Stakes is a mile-long Grade 3 event that will be run on the grass at BEL for the 17th time. It’s purse has fluctuated over the years, though the $250.000 offered is the same as it was in 2020, and just $50.000 less than it had been in the few years prior.
