This home bred won a nice state bred maiden on this track last time in his second start. Traveling nicely behind the speed he picked up when asked and fought best to the line winning by a half length in just under 1.23 for the seven furlongs. He gets a great draw to do the same today in a race where he is one of the stand outs.
2 Rule By Secrecy Nakamura Stables Ryan S
Still a maiden after three starts he has been making the running in his last two starts only to get run down so i wonder whether a change of tactics today may see him running a different race from this perfect draw. His works are just a tick off some of the best of these but with the Nak factor on his side he may just break his maiden today.
3 Luka Shark Night Rider Stables Desormeaux K J
One start resulting in an eighth place finish in a lowly FE Maiden i wonder whether this race may come too soon for him. His works as is usually the case these days are just about as good as anything so as usual it is impossible to write him off especially as his owner has hit a great patch of form.
4 Awesome Return Axeman Hernandez J J
The most experienced animal in the field he has exactly the right form to start favorite and should, on form at least, take the win. The winner of the Simcoe he headed to the grade one Pharaoh last time and ran a super race to be just a length back in sixth at the end. That sort of form with maybe the exception of Abominable is by far the best on offer and his works are sharp too, the obvious choice to win.
5 Abominable Mb Stables Velazquez J R
Has been thrown in the deep end since his maiden win and hasn’t done too badly to be competitive in a couple of the big early juvenile races. His win in the Cup and Saucer last time was very good albeit on the turf and being from Mb Stables his works are strong on either surface. Being from Mb gives him a winning chance, his decent form only makes that possibility stronger.
6 Treasure Island Threshold Beschizza A
Progressing well with two good wins over ground in lower grade. Drawn out which wont help his chances and up against better than he has ever faced before.
7 Tempura Mb Stables Davis D
Got his maiden win at the fourth attempt by an easy two lengths but this is tougher and he does look the second string from the stable. Having said that there is nothing in this race that you couldn’t make a case for and his 1.37 and 2 mile work certainly suggests he has a touch of class.
SUMMARY
This race looks at the mercy of Awesome Return here who looks on paper like the best horse in the race. It is dangerous to get too bullish about form at hrp though and it is easy to see any of the other runners knocking him off, most notably Abominable.
