RACE 2 BEL    The Mother Goose (GI)

$300.000   3yoF    1   1/16m    Dirt

When the dust settled at the end of Saturday’s Mother Goose (GI), two things were known – the favorites didn’t run their best and Behrens Bride proved much too touch on this day.  Restrained early, the bay filly set sail down the lane and got the job done, winning by three-quarters of a length in a final time of 1:471 over the sloppy BEL main track.

The field was set in this one-turn mile and a sixteenth stakes, and as they got away from the gate, Broomsticks N Booty was away well.  The Reaper, Behrens Bride and Team Nebraska with good early speed.  Marshed right in behind that group, Wildstile from the rail, Athenas Wish, and Love Me Do was the early trailer.

Making their way down the backside and now six furlongs to run, The Reaper was now the pace setter by three-quarters of a length.  Team Nebraska keeping the pressure on that one, then a gap of two lengths back to Broomsticks N Booty from between horses, Wildstile on the rail, Marshed three wide.  Another length back to Behrens Bride, then Athenas Wish and Love Me Do now six lengths from the leader and four wide.

Headed into the far turn and now a half mile to run, The Reaper still on the front end, Team Nebraska trying to chip away at that one.  Broomsticks N Booty another length behind that pair, Wildstile to her inside, Marshed on her outside.  A gap of two lengths back to Behrens Bride, under a hold, Athenas Wish still saving ground and Love Me Do still the trailer and still six lengths from the front end.

To the top of the lane and past the three-sixteenths pole, we had a horse race – Broomsticks N Booty with a nose in front, Wildstile between horses and full of run, The Reaper inside of that one and making it three across the track.  Behrens Bride coming quickly down the middle of the track, Team Nebraska back towards the inside, Marshed from the outside, Athenas Wish trying to slip up the rail and Love Me Do widest of all.

Inside the final 150 yards and down to the finish,  Behrens Bride flying home late down the center of the track and kicking clear late to win by three-quarters of a length.  Wildstile game to the end and taking the second spot over the huge outsider, Love Me Do at 99/1 and in third.  Marshed was fourth with Athenas Wish fifth, Broomsticks N Booty, The Reaper in seventh and Team Nebraska closed this one out.

Behrens Bride is a 3yo bay filly by Charming Behrens – All Ahead Full by Ahead Of The Game, and she was bred in FL by her owner, Big Jd Racing.  This was her third win from fourteen starts and she now shows $391.480 in earnings.  This was her first stakes score.
