Betty Finds a Real Good Deal

1st Bettys Whiskey, trained by Running Farms

This was one of the least exposed horses in the field and with a fillies allowance of five pounds she was always going to prove tough to beat. That was certainly the case as she dug deep to score a famous victory over the colts and spell out a serious warning to more established sprinting fillies in her age group. She travelled perfectly throughout this race using the rail to full advantage and eventually showed enough guts and class to hold out for victory. Make no mistake this was a massive run against some decent male sprinters and it wouldn’t surprise me to see her go on to much bigger and better things.

2nd Orange Skeleton, trained by Chili King Stables

This son of Skeleton Key was always going to have trouble going the early pace and that’s exactly how it panned out for him. Out the back early he flew late but just failed to get to the line and ended up second. Its difficult to work out just what this geldings best trip is but it may come down to a lack of heart rather than stamina that led his trainer down this path. Having said that this was a very good effort and without the fillies weight allowance I would be taking about a winning late run that carried this horse to victory.

3rd Actually, trained by Mb Stables

Another that may have found this sprint trip tested his early speed too much he too got back early on in the early rush. Late on though he hit the line hard to be third beaten only a half-length and confirmed that he is certainly on the improve.

4th Chit Chat, trained by Team 7 Illusions

Made the lead early but as most leaders do these days he got run down in the stretch. He was only beaten a length in fourth though and if he returns to his favoured six furlongs next time he will be hard to beat.

5th Royal Wings

Kept on into a dead heat for fifth and whilst being beaten two lengths in this grade could be seen as a decent run in HRP land this result is hard to assess.

6th Supervolt

Stalked the early pace but found little when asked. I was a shade disappointed with this effort after some good lead up races so the jury will be out until he shows a return to that sort of form.

7th Screaming Demon

Didn’t really show up

8th To A Tune

It was a big ask for this twice raced colt but after some strong works I did expect a much better show. Having said that those works were on the turf so he may fair better with a return to that surface.
