The Canadian Turf – GIII
GP Race 6 1M – InTurf
Purse $150.000
Four Year Olds and Up
A big whopping full field of twelve right here are going to be entering the starting gates for this years event of the Canadian Turf. It is a huge field and it is also part of a very good racing day over here at Gulfstream Park. This race is no exception as it is also a very nice race so let’s take a look at the field.
1. Going Gone (23-7-5-1 $463.720), trained by John Henry
To the first runner that we come is a nice horse and he is a graded stakes winner in his career. He won the DMR Handicap and also participated in the grade one Breeders Cup Turf where he ran eleventh. He usually likes to come from way back so a fast pace will definitely benefit him.
2. Green Rush (15-4-3-4 $172.850), trained by Pennsville Farm
Another graded stakes winner right here and this runner is entering this race off of a second place finish in the grade three TAM Stakes at Tampa Bay. He got beat by a neck that day that day and almost won so he definitely has a shot in here. He will need to run a big race but I think he can do just that.
3. That’s Fazzt (10-4-4-0 $404.620), trained by Estero Farms
And again another graded stakes winner in this field and this horse is coming into this race off of a second place finish in the grade two Mathis Brothers Mile. He also ran seventh in the Breeders Cup Mile by a length last November so he is a pretty good horse. He likes to come from behind but he is also versatile.
4. Iron Laws (17-4-3-5 $179.990), trained by Fractious
Well here we come across a runner that is not a stakes or graded stakes winner. This runner is entering this race off of a third place finish in the Unusual Heat Turf Classic by two lengths. This horse usually likes to come from behind so he will need a fast pace up front to help him out.
5. Crowning Star (28-8-3-7 $233.850), trained by Angelos Stable
And now we come along to this gelding right here who is entering this race off of a third place finish against open stakes company in the Little Magician on February 18th. He is coming around on a quick layoff so if he has any shot he will need to be fresh from that last race.
6. Its Geek To Me (30-11-4-3 $442.010), trained by Nakamura Stables
Well right here we have a stakes winner who is coming off of arguably the best race of his career. He just ran second in the grade one Pegasus World Cup Turf last out here at Gulfstream Park where he was only beaten a length. If he runs that same race in this spot he will be very tough for sure.
7. Nitemare (18-5-5-2 $551.950), trained by D J C Racing Stables
And once again we meet another graded stakes winner and this horse right here won the grade two Del Mar Derby last summer. He was also twelfth in the Breeders Cup Mile last November. He hasn’t ran good since the Del Mar Derby so he will need to go back to that form to have any chance in here.
8. The Hand Youre Dealt (20-6-4-4 $711.480), trained by Mb Stables
Now here is a grade one winner right here and this horses grade one victory was when he won the Fourstardave Handicap at Saratoga last summer. He also ran fourth in the Breeders Cup Mile and is coming off of a fourth in stakes race at Houston. He needs to run like he did in the summer to win.
9. What The Farley (12-5-1-1 $144.480), trained by YME Stable
An interesting runner for me right here is this horse who will only be making his second ever career start on turf in this spot. He won his only ever turf race and that was in his last out at Santa Anita against optional claiming company. Not sure if he this good but maybe the turf is his calling.
10. Proud Child (22-9-2-5 $338.320), trained by D J C Racing Stables
The second runner for D J C Racing Stables right here and this one is coming into this race off of a stakes win in the Fitzsimmons Mile Handicap at Turf Paradise. He won that race pretty nicely and it seems that he is in good form so if he is good enough to win this it looks like he has a decent chance.
11. The Spaniard (13-5-3-1 $369.370), trained by Big Jd Racing
Now here is a horse who was running against some of the best three year olds in the country last year when he ran second in the grade one Haskell and fourth in the grade one Travers. He has had a rough go of it until last out when he crushed a stakes field by four lengths. I think he is talented enough to win this race.
12. Built Like A Rock (13-1-0-4 $193.000), trained by TwinTowers Racing
A grade one placed runner right here but he is a camera shy horse with only one win in thirteen starts. He ran terrible in the McKnight Handicap last out on a soft turf course and he has a very bad post in here. I just don’t really see this horse winning this race at all to be honest.
Summary
Now this is a very big field and there is some very nice horses in here for sure and you can make a case for most of them. I think that the best chance to win it is The Hand Youre Dealt because he is a very tough runner. That is going to be my top selection and good luck to all of the entries in the field.
