BC Classic – Grade I
1 1/4 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $6,000.000 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.
1st Black Mojo, trained by Mb Stables
Third in this race last year people really missed him amongst this field of superstars but the Foster Handicap winner had the dream run and clung on gamely for a neck win at any old odds. Sixth in the Pacific Classic, fifth in the CT Classic he had been beaten by plenty of this field today but the track was playing to horse that got the perfect trip and this one did just that. In a close stalk early on he stole a decisive break and had just enough left to win.
2nd A One, trained by Eastern Equine
The only one out of the ‘big 5’ to run his race he was wide throughout and tried right the way to the line just failing at the end. The draw was always going to be tough for him and he probably covered about ten yards more than the winner so ran a brilliant race to be second.
3rd Lord High Admiral, trained by John Henry
The first of the three year olds home he ran on really well at the end and ran a great race. Forced to find the gaps from the one gate it just shows you the difference a draw can make as he was beaten 6 lengths and nearly last in his last start from awide gate.
4th Shootfromthehip, trained by Nakamura Stables
Too far back to be a chance he ran on very well to be fourth but was as close as he got at the line. It was a shame with the perfect draw that he fell so far back as had he stayed closer he could well have got even closer than he did.
The Rest
In some ways it was a shame that the draw and the track robbed us of the great race that was promised between teh best horses of teh year. Atomic Twister made the running but just whacked away in the end for seventh whilst the Pacific Classic winner who had previously thrashed the winner made up plenty of ground by was ninth in the end from his wide draw. Clash Study ran a nothing race in tenth but i am led to understand his meters were slightly out.
SUMMARY
Another win on a day that saw Mb Stables win 6 of the 9 BC races this was probably his least expected. A real big day sort of horse though ad his form reminds me a bit of Atomic Twisters last year who hadnt won much at the time but had all the ability.
